Were the Atlanteans a Mistake?

I've never really been into the multiplayer scene (I've played a handful of games) and didn't get my hands on AoM until years after it was released. And then it took quite some time before we got the Titans expansion. But the expansion never felt quite right. The Titans were okay or even fun, I guess, but the way the Atlanteans could just re-use God powers felt off to me and their favour generation fairly lazy. I feel like they held the expansion back sufficiently that the game itself was held back... although obviously Ensemble's fate might be a better reason why there was never an AoM 2.

I liked the Campaign though. AoM (and the Titans expansion) remain the only Age series Campaign I've played (I don't find the concept, in general, interesting).
