I'd like to play AoE 2 online (had AoC on disc many years ago) but I'm struggling to find out where to go to purchase. In my location (UK) HD with all DLC is almost $40 and although I'm not averse to paying that I can't help but feel that I'm missing out on a substantial saving; certainly, I'd like to get friends to play but they would definitely be put off by the big price tag.
My question then is - what's the easiest way of accessing the most currently played AoE 2 version. Is it worth paying $40, waiting for a sale or looking to purchase elsewhere? Does the competitive scene use the newer DLCs? Do more people still play AoC on Voobly?
Regarding the community at large, I imagine other people may have this problem who are looking to get into the game - would a fixed, lower price tag, or possibly even making the base HD version free, help growth?
