Low number of mulitplayer lobbies Steam edition

Hey all,

I was wondering if most people use the lobby system in the multiplayer mode to play AoE2? When I look through the multiplayer lobby system and it seems like there are not that many games available. I checked the steam stats and it said around 8-9k people are playing. Is it just mostly single player? I would think there would be more than 30-40 lobbies open with that amount of players.

So my question is, do most people use the multiplayer lobby function in the (steam version) game? Or is there something else people are using to find lobbies?

I browse this Reddit very sporadically so forgive me if this has been posted before.
