TIL: Exactly why Turtle Ships are so chunky

Despite being expensive and slow, turtle ships surprised me today in an islands team game for their durability. They weren't taking any damage at all from enemy navies and I destroyed their docks while shrugging off their attacks. I later looked it up and apparently turtle ships have +8 and +11 anti-ship armour. War galleys and fire ships have +9 and +3 bonus attack vs ships, respectively. When combined with the base pierce armour of 5, that means turtle ships are only taking 3 damage from each war galley and 1 damage from every fire galley attack. With their 200 HP, that means you need 134 war galley shots to take down a turtle ship. Conversely, you only need 14 war galley shots to take down enemy war galleys.

I always knew they were tanky, but I thought it was just from their high HP. I was completely unaware of their anti-ship armour.

Good to know
