AoE2 Achievements Ideas

We all know that the AoE2 achievements on Steam are boring and grindy so I took it upon myself to come up with some ideas for fun, civilisation-specific and often situational achievements more in line with games like Civ, EU4 or Total War to provide some extra challenges or incentive for an unusual way to play.

I based them mostly on the civilisation's specific bonuses or historical references with some humour here and there. I tried to come up with at least two for each civ but in some cases I just really could not think of anything so suggestions for other achievements, better names etc. are all welcome and I will update this list with the best ones. :)

The numbers may be somewhat arbitrary but I think they are reasonable enough for some challenge.

Aztecs

• Agents of Quetzalcoatl – Win a game as the Aztecs while only recruiting monks and having researched all monastery technologies.
• Montezuma’s Revenge – As Aztecs, have at least 30 Paladins at once.
• Sunset Invasion – As Aztecs, defeat all European and Middle Eastern civilisations.

Berbers

• Barbary Pirates – As Berbers, sink 100 fishing boats and trade cogs in one game.
• Maghrebi Camels – Have an Elite Camel Archer self-heal from 1hp to full health.

Britons

• Longbows Are Not Overpowered – Win a game as Britons without recruiting any foot archers.
• That Didn’t Take a Hundred Years – Win a regicide game against Franks as Britons.
• Warwolf Unleashed – As Britons, destroy a defeated enemy’s castle using a Trebuchet with the Warwolf technology researched.

Burmese

• All Your Relics Are Belong to Us – Capture all relics on the map as the Burmese.
• Manipur Cavalry – Win a game as Burmese while only recruiting Arambai.

Byzantines

• City of the World’s Desire – Win a wonder victory as the Byzantines while owning at least 300 buildings, 100 wall segments and 200 population.
• True Basileus – Defeat Turks, Saracens, Persians and Italians in the same game.
• Varangian Guard – As the Byzantines, have at least 30 Berserks at once.

Celts

• Freeeedom! – As Celts, defeat Britons but have your king die.
• Furor Celtica – Win a game as the Celts while only creating siege units.

Chinese

• Fireworks Display – Sink at least five ships with a single Demolition Ship as the Chinese.
• The Great Wall of China – As Chinese, build a Fortified Wall that spans the entire width of a giant map (240 tiles).

Ethiopians

• Great Outposts – Remove fog of war from the entire map as the Ethiopians.
• Torsion Engines – Kill at least 10 units with a single Siege Onager shot as the Ethiopians.

Franks

• Agincourt Reversed – As the Franks, kill 200 Longbowmen in a single game and defeat the Britons.
• Escape to Chateau – As the Franks, build a castle surrounded by 8 farms and garrison your king inside it.
• Martel’s Legacy – Defeat the Saracens (or Berbers) in a 1v1 game without training any cavalry units.

Goths

• Gothic Invasion – Win a game as the Goths while only recruiting infantry units.
• The Early Showdown – As Goths, defeat the Huns in the Dark Age.

Huns

• Scourge of God – Delay enemy’s wonder or relic victory by researching Atheism.
• Smoke and Blood – As the Huns, destroy 1000 buildings in one game.

Incas

• Hardy People – As the Incas, win a game while having researched all Blacksmith techs and not having lost a single villager.
• Historical Re-enactment – As the Incas, field at least 50 Kamayuks and defeat the Persians.

Indians

• Finest Camels – Field at least 50 imperial camels with all upgrades and win the game.
• Quite the Menagerie – As Indians have at least 5 of each of the following: Elite Elephant Archers, Imperial Camels, Hussars, Scorpions, Onagers, Capped Rams, Trade Carts and Sheep. (Turtle Ships, Eagle Warriors, Jaguar Warriors?)

Italians

• Mend the Schism – As Italians, convert 10 Byzantine monks in one game.
• Serenissima – As Italians, earn at least 50,000 gold from trade on a water map.

Japanese

• Bushido – As the Japanese, field at least 50 Elite Samurai with all possible upgrades and win the game.
• Divine Wind – Defeat the Mongols on a water map as the Japanese, without letting them land any troops on your island (or letting them get within 20 tiles of your starting Town Center).
• Kataparuto – Win a game as the Japanese using only Trebuchets.

Khmer

• Medieval Tanks – Win a game as the Khmer while recruiting only Ballista Elephants and having researched Double Crossbow.

Koreans

• A One Trick Pony – Build 10 towers by the 15 minute mark as the Koreans.

Magyars

• Fekete Sereg – As the Magyars, research Mercenaries and field a total of at least 100 non-trash units.
• Legacy of the Steppes – Win a game as the Magyars while only recruiting Cavalry Archers.

Malay

• Thalassocracy – As the Malay, have at least 10 Harbors and 30 Galleons.
• The Expendables – As the Malay, field at least 200 Karambit Warriors.

Malians

• Gold Must Flow – As Malians, collect at least 50,000 gold not counting trade.

Mayans

• Blood Offering – As the Mayans, kill at least 200 enemy units within 5 tiles of your monasteries (or wonder).
• Dance of the Archer – Win a game as the Mayans while only recruiting archer units.

Mongols

• Khaaaan! – Kill at least 2000 units in a single game as the Mongols.
• Silk Road – Earn at least 50,000 gold from trade on a land map.

Persians

• Hannibal Would Be Proud – As the Persians, field at least 40 war elephants and defeat the Byzantines on a mountainous map.
• True Team Player – As the Persians, send at least 50,000 resources to your allies and win the game.

Portuguese

• Colonial Powerhouse – Own at least 5 buildings on 5 different landmasses and have at least 30 Caravels as the Portuguese.
• Early Automatisation – Have at least 5 Feitorias as the Portuguese.

Saracens

• Crusaders Are Attacking Our Trade Routes – As Saracens, have at least 50 Trade Carts and defeat the Franks without losing any of them.
• Madrasah – Convert at least 300 units as Saracens in a single game.

Slavs

• Fully Militarised – Win a game as the Slavs without building any houses.
• Winged Hussars Arrived – As Slavs, field at least 50 Hussars and defeat the Turks with Teutons as your ally.

Spanish

• Nobody Expects… - Kill 100 units with monks and missionaries in a single game (enemy must have researched Heresy).
• …the Spanish Villager Rush – Win a game as the Spanish without training any military units and having researched Supremacy.
• True Conquistador – Defeat Aztecs, Mayans and Incas in the same game on the Central America (or Yucatan) map.

Teutons

• Baltic Crusaders – Win a game as the Teutons on the Baltic map while only recruiting Teutonic Knights and Monks.
• Holy, Roman and an Empire – Win a Regicide game as the Teutons while holding at least five relics and having killed at least 500 enemy units.

Turks

• Magnificent Age ­– As the Turks, reach Imperial Age by 14:53.
• Rise of the Janissaries – Win a game as the Turks while only recruiting gunpowder units.

Vietnamese

• Money Printer – Have your team benefit by at least 2000 gold from Paper Money tech.
• People's Militia - Win a game as the Vietnamese while only recruiting Spearman and Skirmisher line units.

Vikings

• Nothing Is Sacred – Destroy at least 10 monasteries in a single game as the Vikings.
• Raiders and Traders – As the Vikings, field at least 30 longboats and have 20,000 gold income from trade and win the game on a water map.

General Achievements

• Vegetarian Diet – Win a game by only gathering food from farming and foraging.
• Carnivore Diet – Win a game by only gathering food from hunting, herding and fishing.
• What’s Logistics? – Win a game without building any resource drop-off buildings.
• Feudal War – Win the game before anyone reaches the Castle Age.
• Castle War – Win the game before anyone reaches the Imperial Age, having advanced to Castle Age.
• Imperial Ambition – Win the game having researched all technologies available to your civilisation.
