efficient Fishing Trap placement

Greetings,

what is the best placement for laying fishing traps around docks/harbours? If there is enough space a line around each dock has the best gathering rate without any blocking or interference with any fishing ships. But sometimes you space is very limited. I tried different layouts like this:

Harbour or: ________ Harbour ____ or: ____ Harbour ____ or: Harbour

XX XX XX XX ________ XX XX XX XX ________ XX XX __________ X X X

XX XX XX XX ________ XXXXXXXXXX _______ XX XX _________ X X X

XX XX XX XX _____________________________ XX XX ________ X X X

I found the 2x6 system is the most efficient one,

but the pathfinding makes those systems very hard to predict and you have to manage them sometimes afterwards once because the ships get stuck. There is the problem that if one ship occupies the other space that one ship is working on, the "outsider" fishing ship gets "deactivated" and stops moving alltogether. Then the direction the harbour is facing is important as well. If you play in the north, ships have an easier time navigating so in some way with an equal play, if you start in the north of the map you always "farm" faster compared to starting southwards if the sea is directly in the middle. The whole system seems to be a complete mess and it took me a few hours to come to at least some understanding of how it works. If you start spamming fishings ships, it's important to create lanes as well and one hex distance to the dock so that the pathfinding doesn't give them a long journey. Sometimes they go all around and actually behind the dock (if this is possible), rather than to wait and take the shortest route. If you build sideways, the ships also seem to occupy more space and use a different spot to work on the bow net.
