On abandoned games, think Age Of Empires Online and MMO private servers, that the community successfully revived.

In the recent years many games seem to be abandoned by their devs for reasons that exceed the "not profitable enough". Passionate teams of devs reallocated when the big heads wanna move their focus elsewhere, is one of the many problems that occur in the game industry.

That leaves good games stray. The funny thing is the community managed to revive the mentioned games and even removing the p2w elements of them providing an amazing experience. Age of Empires Online with its Project Celeste brings back the joyful spin off rts that many loved because of its awesome artstyle and Battlefield Heroes Rising Hub that brings back the Battlefield with Cartoony Graphics that many loved while despising the various microtransactions that are now removed !

Even in the area of unfinished game such as Rising Thunder the community did what it could, with a push from the devs too, so it can provide a demo like experience for those who want to have some simple fun.

In the list probably are many MMOs too with private servers and even older games that fans can't stop loving. Battlefield 2, Supreme Commander, Jedi Outcast...I bet you know more. Given the time and help the community can do great things !

What are some other similar projects and games that the community has takeν under its wing.

Should the devs actually push the community and even give source code, tools and blessings to the community when they fail to deliver what it was promised ?

What would stop them from doing so ?

Share your opinions about this type of communities that pop arround.
