And no it’s not just because I’m replaying every Devil May Cry in prep for DMC5...
There’s just something about these older games. I just finished the RE2 remake and went to get the DMC HD Collection right away. RE2 is so complete, so nuanced and classy, two separate stories each around 6-8, hours if you explore the lore or it’s your first time, there’s accurate timers for speed running and extra modes after the main modes, so much replayability because the gameplay itself is great too. Devil May Cry, from nearly TWO decades ago is such a good game as well, there’s a plethora of things all over any given environment that allow you to interact with them and see some text background or story, explanation, etc, great fighting and style system, cool story, it’s so fleshed our. I think RDR2, Zelda, Yakuza, Persona 5 and God of War nailed those aspects, as well as Undertale and a few others of course, Ace Combat 7 comes to mind, a new game back to a classic experience.
I think developers should release extremely complete and thorough games for $30, maybe maxing out around 20 hours of story time with replayability systems in place, instead of dishing out incomplete games designed to waste your time monotonously until you fess up and buy some microtransactions, give up or get banned due to their own incompetence. Jak and Daxter, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Ratchet and Clank, Age of Empires, SSX, Halo, Gears of War, Deus Ex, Half Life, The Witcher Tres, Bauldr’s Gate, Morrowind, Diablo, the list goes on...
All these remakes are coming out because they were fucking fantastic for their time and still hold their value, it’s as if the industry thrived when it was first learning how to walk and now it’s sprinting full steam ahead with no real destination.
Props to Respawn also. I was a huge fan of the TF2 story and gameplay in general, they’ve created only BR I’ve ever enjoyed and it’s free with no P2W aspects. EA keep ya’ slimy fingers away.
What other games are you looking forward to in lieu of classiness? I’m going for DMC5, Sekiro, Days Gone (...maybe?), Biomutant, and I’d still like to try Metro because I’ve played the entire series so far.
