What do you think are the best "introductory" or "archetypal" games of each genre?

Recently I've been thinking about how to introduce a friend to JRPGs. Basically, what would I show them/get them to play that would be the quintessential JRPG experience. Or at least what would give them a good overview of JRPGs just to have context for what they are. After some polling from my friends I got FF III and VI, Persona 5, Ni No Kuni, the Tales Series, Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler.

I think these give a decent overview of the general tropes: small band of heroes needs to save the world, multiple party members that can specialize with some variance, lots of stats, grinding, big kinda hammy stories, teen angst, and ultimate triumph over evil (often through the power of love or friendship).

Having gotten through JRPGs, I was wondering what people thought for other genres. What games would be on your representative list of what a genre can be? What do you think the key points of each genre are? For some examples I was thinking

*Real time strategy: Games that take place in real time (duh) with a lot of resource management, unit building and upgrading, tech trees, and actions per minute in the few hundreds to stay competitive. Age of Empires 2, Rise of Nations, Starcraft

*Turn based strategy: Games that have the meat of their gameplay in a turn based and grid based board. You have all the time you want to make decisions and always just want to go one more turn. XCOM (the series in general), Civilization V (although this might be better under a dedicated 4X banner)

*First person shooters: You fire guns from first person. I'll admit I don't have a lot of recent knowledge in this one. Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, Titanfall 2

*Action RPG: Action games where there is a lot of fast gameplay with RPG elements on the side. Kingdom Hearts, Mass Effect, Fallout 3 forward

As you can tell, my overall experience is kind of limited. Action RPG is also probably way too broad a term for what I'm thinking of so how would you change or redefine it? What games would you add or get rid of? What other genres do you think have games that represent them?
