Anyone know why I can't select multiple villagers with CTRL in DE?

Hey all, quick question. I've managed to make the switch to DE mostly successfully, but I have one annoying thing left that I can't figure out. I am able to hold control and add individual military units one by one to form a larger selected group. However, when I try to do the same with villagers, it won't let me, and I have to add more villagers to a group by holding the shift key instead. Is there some simple setting I'm missing to be able to use the CTRL key for both military units and villagers? Thank you!
