Fast horses on megarandom?

Hi everyone, I'm a bit confused. I just played a 1v1 on mega random and we both had three horses to start scouting with at the beginning. However his horses were moving way faster than my horses. His explanation did not make a lot of sense. He said something about the way you direction your horses or something like that. I had no idea what he was talking about. Does this make sense to you all? Was he cheating maybe?
