New player, how do I have fun but learn at the same time?

I just never understood this game. Only had like 30 hours in Aoe 2 HD, just got DE.

My background in rts games are from wc3, sc, and some others. I just do not get how to enjoy this game even on a casual level.

​

I'd rather just do multiplayer games and get right into the action, maybe I can do games against AI with someone.

​

So what I don't understand are many things. I constantly feel like I'm missing something- oh I should have another townhall now, oh I have 30 villagers farming trees but now I have only 50 food. Now I have to micromanage my villagers here, rinse repeat.

​

I also never know what units to make. It's so confusing because there seems to be only a handful of units, but it's like every time I make a certain unit it's the wrong one.

​

My economy moves super slow, I'm always behind, even using HKs.

​

Lastly, food. How in the hell do you get food in this game? I'm always bottlenecked there. I make farms, build mills near berry bushes, build docks, it's never enough and I get fucked. It's just such a pain in the ass to scout the map too, and take the sheep to my homebase while doing everything else at once... Idk anymore there's just so much to it.

At the same time I'd say this game isn't as confusing as CoH2, but CoH2 is probably the hardest RTS I ever attempted to learn.
