Dark age vill count

Just quick question

How much vill should i assign to each resource in dark age ? I always go for 10/10/3-4, food/wood/gold then click feudal, which seem to be workigg okay most of the time but if oponent is rushing im finding myself really behind .. am i doing it wrong ?

Follow-up to a drush

I'd like some help with how to follow up a drush. Like I understand the point is not to do heaps of damage but more put your opponent on the defensive to free you up to play a preferred strategy. I played a Lithuanian game recently where I forced an opponent to quick wall off with the 3min drush (2 militia) and denied his berries, but he still beat me to castle because I went for scouts after (he went archers into xbow) looking at the eco after we were actually level on vill count but the scouts really ate up my food and I couldn't get castle. Would I have been better to just mirror him and go ranged units? He was playing mongols on Arabia.

Ivaylo Mission 1 Bug (Spoilers Maybe?)

Hello, I've been playing Ivaylo Mission 1 and I have reached a point where the game stops progressing. After the battle at the start of the mission, the objective states that I should locate and defend the village. I move the units to the middle of the map to get the the village and the objective doesn't change. The Tatars are the only enemy in the scenario so I get my base built up and eventually get my army to attack their camp. After I destroy the castle, the remaining buildings become mine but there is no new objective. I sent a scout to explore the rest of the map and the other two AIs are just staying in their bases. There are some rocks preventing me from getting to the green AIs base for some reason. This is a pretty significant bug because the mission doesn't move forward after destroying the Tatars and there is no way of completing it and moving on with the campaign. Is there anyone else who played the mission who encountered this bug? If so, what can I do to get past this point in the mission.

TLDR: I destroy the Tatar base in Ivaylo Mission 1, the objective doesn't change, so I'm stuck.

How would you buff the Ethiopians, Goths, Portuguese, Burmese, and Teutons?

There's been enough threads about the Vietnamese and Khmer...

These are other civs that certainly need looked at least.

TL;DR just read the bold text blow

The Ethiopians are supposed to be an early game focused civ but only just cut it. In fact, their win rate is almost exactly 50% in the early game. And drops hard in the late game. For that reason, I would propose we bring back the free Halberdier upgrade.

The Goths have always been a lategame powerhouse, and I feel that it should stay that way. The huskarl flood is iconic. But clearly they have fallen behind since Supplies was added. So I propose making it a little easier to get to their late game. Change their +1 damage against buildings to: Arson free.

The Portuguese seem to be designed to be flexible in the early game, and a powerhouse in the late game. But doesn't stand out in either role. I think they can serve the role, just need a little push in the right direction. Perhaps all units cost -20% less gold instead?

The Burmese are one of the rajas civs. They might actually be in a good spot ever since supplies. The problem is they aren't played much. Maybe we need to buff their fun. Maybe change their +1/+1 armor for elephants into a passive trait. And give them a new tech for Castle Age.

Teutons I think I have an easy answer for this one.

Allow infantry to garrison in Town Centers, and add Town Centers to their imperial age tech, which lets infantry fire arrows from castles.

While you're at it. maybe mention that hand cannoneers in bombard towers will fire two cannonballs in the actual civ bonuses? That's something that flies under the radar for alot of players. I understand the Teutons WERE buffed recently so perhaps we should let the meta adapt and see if they're viable.

Can we update this subreddit for DE?

Now that we have DE and its working perfect for most of us can we get this subreddit cleaned up? It needs to help get more people to DE but its sending mixed messages. The picture banner at the top needs to change from HD 2013 logo to DE logo and use graphics from DE not HD. All of the old 3rd party fixes and Userpatch garbage on the sidebar need to be deleted. Those don't even work with DE so they are beyond useless. CD doesn't work in 2020? HD lags? Buy DE. Stop encouraging to use stupid fixes. The help links and play online links for Steam need to change from HD to DE. Add a link for the virtual memory fix? Get rid of the Voobly and Gameranger links on the sidebar and put a link to the Steam store page for DE? All other HD Steam community links change them to DE instead. https://steamcommunity.com/app/813780

PSA: don't wait until your base is half destroyed before asking for help

I thought this would be common sense but it happens all too often. So frustrating to be playing a game and then look over to my teammate who has their base half destroyed by the enemy. Ask for help when you need it, not after it's too late!!

Is there a way to automatically assign newly-created units to control groups?

As an AoE2 dilettante, this is something that I miss immensely.

For example, I'd like all newly-created archers to go into group 2, so I do not have to manually add them.

In any given game, one of the most frustrating things I have to do is to periodically select a group, shit-select some newly-created units (hopefully they have not dispersed yet due to their default aggressive stance!), then control-rebind the new group, and set their stance to defensive. It feels like a big overhead and waste of time.

Does everyone else have this problem, or do they manage groups differently?

Difficult Late Game

Recently started playing AoE 3 with my friends. Its all fun and intresting when it comes zo early game but when we arent able to destroy ourselves early we arent able to in late game. If one attacks, everyone keeps spamming troops with almost infinite ressources. No one knowing how to end the game. Any hints from you guys?

Joan of Arc 6 is a joke

I'm playing this mission on hard. I'm the first to admit I'm not a particularly good player, only ever playing against the AI, but this mission is something else. From the start you are assailed by not one, not two, but three enemies, all of which are in imperial age, whilst you start out in castle age. The game lures you into attacking the Burgundian town but this is an obvious trap. You will soon have so many rams and trebuchets rammed up your hole you can't move. I employed an unorthodox strategy of ignoring Burgundy, who in turn are ignoring me, and settling on the eastern side of the river. Whilst this is definitely easier, Shrewsbury seems to have gone into overdrive. He's sending CONSTANT cavaliers at me, constantly disrupting my economy. I've walled off the rover fords, but his rams and trebuchets knock them down in seconds. There's only so long I can hold off imperial age aggression with castle age pikes and horseman.

I expect a challenge when I play on hard, but this is crazy. It reminds me of the final Sundjata mission on release. Are there any tips for this mission?

Possible idea for a new mod

I really enjoy watching the t90 low elo legend series, due to the tips he gives during the game and the mistakes he points out, as some of them i am also doing.

A point that is often made is that the low elo players, including myself, do not refresh their lumber camps. Maybe it would be good idea for a new mod that would visually remind you of building a new efficient lumber camp

Match Making: Suugestion: Let there be an accept Button.

If anybody here plays csgo, you know how that game has an accept button. it isa real good thing.

Say you decided to que, and for somereason, when the match poped up, you had to go away.

Right now as it stands, you can't cancel the match after its found. you have to play it or loose rank points.

Is there an attack move button in DE?

I've been managing with patrol but I know HD had an attack move button. While I think it was slightly worse than patrol at finding targets, I think there are times I'd rather have attack move. Eg. I want to kill 5 archers and 5 spears with skirms w/o watching them but I don't want to misclick and accidentally run my skirms under his archers.

edit: I guess attack move in HD couldn't target units anyways.

And I like a lot of the top comments. WC3 reforged sucks ass. Get a refund if you bought it. DE is way better.

I'm looking at playing a multiplayer game again for a while and aiming to climb the ladders and actually improve my skills. Out of these options which should I pick up?

I have experience playing all of these games but never really climbed far because I was busy trying to finish every game in my Steam library. Now that I've finished every game I'd like to focus on a Multiplayer game and improve. BUT, I'm having a hard time picking a game to focus on:

Is AOE2 DE underappreciated?

I think the release of Warcraft 3 Reforged really put things into perspective. The only thing WC3 Reforged has supposedly improved is the graphics, but even that, the improvement is so insignificant that I can barely tell if there's any difference on Twitch. On the other hand, AOE2 DE graphics atcually look like what a remastered should be, on top of multiple quality of life features, new civs and campaigns, and a modern multiplayer matching making system. Last but not the least, AOE2 DE only costs $19.99 while WC3 Reforged costs $29.99. Is AOE2 DE underappreciated?

Forced Mutual Random Civ on Ranked Games

The closer I get to #200/#100 games have begun to become more and more uninspired, repetitive and dull.
80% of my Steppe games are against Mongols, same about Gold Rush and Mayans, and of course other maps with their own superior civ.
Where are all those fascinating random interactions Organ guns vs Arambaii, Koreans tower rush, Byz trash spam, Turks deathball....

I signed for the endless amount of unique dynamics that can be created by 35 civs, all I get are the same games, deja vu, whether I lose or win, I find myself so bored.

I think there should be an alternative of any sort.

Infinite wood source

I'm trying to make a modified version of Ceylon where the CPUs don't run out of wood and my plan for this is to have a tree which will never run out of wood, but I don't know how to do that. I tried changing HP, carry capacity, and looping modify protounit changes back into the tree...

I really don't want to resort to modifying the files, but I guess I could work with an infinite wood crate as well. Any help greatly appreciated!

Always thought it would be cool if there was a civ that had their starting scout replaced by a controllable bird.

Anyone else really like this idea? Maybe like a falcon or something. The idea is it could obviously fly over everything and have more LOS but can't attack and can only be killed by ranged units. Just a neat idea I had.

Online game crashes after ~10 minutes

There are no error messages or anything like that, my internet is fine, the game simply slows down to a crawl and eventually crashes. weirdly it has only happened to me in 1v1 so far. I've had long 8 player games with no issue.

First Victory High!

I just wanted to share this with the community, as I thought some of you veterans might get a kick out of it.

I just now, after playing exclusively AI matches for the past 20 damn years on this silly game, worked up the courage to queue for a ranked multiplayer match. My hands were shaking, my palms were sweaty (mom's spaghetti), but I did it. After a tough Goths mirror match on Steppe, I claimed my first victory! What an absolutely overwhelmingly incredible high.

Just wanted to shout out the AoE2 community for being awesome and finally getting me to try out a side of the game I had always admired, but never had the stones to take part in. Cheers, lads and lasses.

Blocked villagers.

Is it me or have they got worse?

Maybe I just notice it more but my goodness it's annoying when I have 5 woodmen/woodwomen and 2 of them just face each other and not move in what feels like forever, even when there is obviously a clear path to walk around.

Just to be clear I'm not taking about one being trapped while another chops away and blocks the transport route. I mean actually brain-dead villagers who have tunnel vision and can't walk around each other.

If this happens in aoe 4 I will go back to Dota.

Ps I understand villager pathing it's part of the game and it's a way of being better than your opponents etc but man it's not a fun job. It's much more fun to outsmart your opponent tactically than win by putting more effort into micromanaging villagers constantly.

Castle Garrisoned Units

Does anyone know if units are garrisoned in the castle if the castle has longer range? When I stack Mangudai in my castle it seems the range is longer but I’m not sure so that’s why I’m asking. A lot of the posts I found talk about damage amount or number of arrows but didn’t find much about range.

Also, do regular castle arrows cause through damage? Like if a straight line of infantry is walking straight towards a castle is it possible for regular castle fire to hit the guys towards the middle of the straight line or just the first unit in line, and also does garrisoned units change this if regular castle fire does not cause through damage?

My take on how to improve ranked queue regarding map pool.

First, a little bit of background, I'm a long time DotA and DOTA 2 player. For those who are unfamiliar, in DOTA there is only one map, but there are over a hundred of heroes, there are different game modes regarding how you pick your heroes, but the most popular, or should I say default mode is all pick, that means you can pick any hero you want, and you can choose to play just one single hero every single game and improve that hero until you're ready to move on. So most people start out play one one map, one default game mode that is allpick, and they can choose to stick with familiar heroes until they're comfortable to learn more.

Now let's get back to AOE 2 DE, there are different civs (heroes) and then there are different maps in the map pool that are forced upon the players whether they like it or not. You can see how that can quickly complicate things and put off new and learning players who just want to focus on improving on specific civs or maps before moving on, which in my opinion is the best way to learn or improve at a video game.

The way to fix it for AOE 2 DE is to have one default map that people can't remove from their map pools, I don't see any reason that Arabia can't be that map. It has been the standard for many years and it is a good map to learn the game. Having one default map that people can't removed from their map pools means that their will be no "splitting the player base" problem. This is why it's better than having more bans or debating whether this map or that map should be in the map pool.

Next we can have an extended map pools that people can choose from to add to their queuing map pool. There can be default extended maps as well as rotating extended maps to keep it fresh and encourage people to discover new maps.

This is just an initial idea but I hope that the devs seriously reconsider the way how map pool currently is because it sucks.

Prithviraj Campaign Bonus Objective Question?

In the new Prithviraj campaign in DE, the third mission, "Hand of a Princess," has you rescue Prithviraj's bride in a stealthy fashion. One of the bonus objectives is to win before the timer hits 550 years. Now the timer starts at around 600-700 years, giving you plenty of time to do the mission, but winning at 550 years seems quite difficult.

I am wondering if anyone has done this bonus objective and know what it rewards. Since bonus objectives usually give you something to help you with the mission that you are doing at the moment, it seems strange to have a bonus objective for winning, as by then you've already won the mission, so nothing else matters.

My guess right now is that it affects the next mission somehow, kind of like in Genghis Khan, the tribe that you have to destroy in mission 2 depends on who you rivalled in mission 1. Can anyone confirm?

Lost a game that I should have won

Yesterday I played a game as the Aztecs on Fortress (I picked random, as I always do except on water-maps) and I was actually doing great.
I was first in Imp-age, had the lead in score, had better economy and even had wiped out almost all the army of my opponent at one point.
But I was too afraid of their castles and thought that going for the wall wouldn't be too efficient either.
Opponent sniped my last Treb and I couldn't get out a new one since I was at 200/200 and didn't want to delete or throw away anything.
Opponent remaxed with a better mix to counter mine (I had a lot of eagle and Jaguar-warrior, but mostly Eagle).
It was a long stalemate in the middle of flooding mostly trash against each-other. But he also raided the stuff I built outside of the wall with cavalry-units.
A big issue I had was that as aztecs I had no light-cavs to do the same to him and my Eagle-Warriors cost gold. So he slowly ground down my economic lead while I didn't damage his. I eventually ran out of wood and food from spamming lancers and skirmishers.

It was especially bad when I looked at the graphs afterwards. At some point my lead was so overwhelming that I feel I really have thrown it and should have gone straight for the wall with all my units rather than waiting for Trebs that wouldn't come out.

In general I feel that I need to learn more about what to do without Trebs... Raiding, searching for back-door-entrances rather than just trying to dominate the enemies' army.

AoE 2 DE next big release suggestions

I think every civ should get either a new unique unit or a unique tech. I.e. Japanese get shinobi, Vikings gain Bloodlust, attack speed when at 50% health. The game is great, but it seems like a waste not to make the civs more unique.

Exposed/Forward Gold

Had an awkward map earlier. My two main gold's were right next to each other (one tile apart!), very forward and exposed because they were in front of my woodline. My third gold was quite a distance away.

I knew it was going to be a big issue. I'm only 1050 Elo so still making plenty of mistakes and this gold issue proved a bridge too far.

I walled and house walled it as best as I could but my opponent went straight for it. Pressured me off it which stopped my archer production. He went maa and skirms. I switched to scouts and dealt with his push but my eco fell apart. Thinking back, I knew it was a key area, I should have put up a defensive tower. I hate using my starting 200 stone, but being completely pushed off the gold ended up being the game. He was castle age before I had even clicked up. The unexpected switch to scouts hurt my food eco and being pushed off gold meant I was miles off.

Apart from towering the gold what other things should I be considering when my gold is super exposed?

Just played my first 2v2 comp stomp with a friend for the first time in years.

We got stomped! It was on moderate ai, and the ai completely filled every square inch of their playable space with siege engine buildings and castles. It was impossible to fight against. What did they do to the AI??? I've never seen it build like that before. It was extremely aggressive, and built consistently about 3 unit types. The way it covered every square inch of space with buildings was just incredible. We were laughing at how ridiculous it was.

In spite of all that, I still had a blast as long as you don't include some terrible lag I encountered where my villagers wouldn't respond to my commands.

boom into...what exactly

I am a total noob, and have been mastering the scouts into archer, and scouts into knight BOs for a while now. I think I have them down. I've been trying to figure out booming for closed maps like BF and Arena, but I just get totally lost. With scouts and knights I feel like im taking the initiative, pinning back my opponent and then reacting accordingly, with something like BF or arena, where you don't get good scouting til the army is on the march, I just feel lost. I feel like I end up getting caught with no military and too many vils

I can execute a FC into 3 TCs, but then what? I know I know top comment here will be "it depends", but what are some good strategies if I have no scouting info on my opponent? What are some good blind initiative strategies that allow me to come out of a boom swinging first?

The very first thing I do after shift-click ordering all my vills is use my explorer’s spyglass to spot the exact place of the middle Trade Post. 9/10 times you hit it, and when you do, it also immediately explores a nice chunk of space around it, and nearby treasures also reveal space around themselves. So I do this one game and when I see the Trade Post site, the guy already has 2 villagers there. Then I see his score is at 30+. I insulted him, left, and pested. He had the audacity to call me a cheater for having seen his vills when I asked how they got there so quickly. Have you ever been cheated against only to realize it late game?

Question about Definitive Edition. Did they fix the command lag in multiplayer involving hundreds of units?

In AOC and HD, especially towards late game, due to how many units are on the map, any order you send to large groups of units would have them freeze in place, take like 5 seconds reorganizing, and then finally proceed to move.

Has this been fixed? Thanks

Noob help! Mixing soldiers and economy for aging up.

As the title says, I am a noob when it come to playing multiplayer AoEIII. I can do fairly well against the AI but when I play against other players I can't seem to mix building soldiers and my economy so I can age up. I always get crushed in the 2nd age because I don't have enough soldiers. but then when I do build soldiers I don't age up to level III as quickly as my opponent. I mostly am playing as the dutch and Germans. Which is weird cause from the videos I have watched they have a very strong economy. I just can't seem to replicate it when I play online.

Useful Heuristics/Tips for brand new players?

Hey guys, I'm a former diamond-level SC2 player looking to get back into RTS games, and wanting to learn AOE2 specifically. I've been trying to watch as much content and play as many games as I can in the last couple of days as I begin to pick this game up. I've been trying to wrap my head around all the unit types, the civ differences, and the map generation, and experimenting with various aspects of the game.

I'm finding that I'm having a decent amount of trouble balancing and rebalancing my economy throughout the ages. While SC2's combat is pretty complex, and build order requirements/tolerances are often very tight, the economy in SC2 is much simpler - you put 3 guys on every gas geyser and fill minerals with the rest of your workers at every single base. Each base has a visible saturation point.

In AOE2 in contrast, each age seems to have different resource requirements. In Dark/Feudal, there isn't that much demand for wood and you focus mostly on food. I'm still trying to master the basic build order, pulling boars, transitioning, builds for Feudal Rush/Fast Castle/Imperial Boom, etc. Getting housed hasn't been too much of a problem thankfully!

In Feudal there's more demand for wood because of your early farms and the beginnings of demand for gold. Castle and Feudal seem to be all about gold and food primarily, with wood being primarily used for the 'trash' units and farms. In SC there's less concern for balancing your economy since there's only two resources, how do you guys manage rebalancing your economy during each age? As an example I’ve been trying to make sure I have at least as many villagers on wood as I do on food during feudal age and on. Not sure if this is necessary as I haven’t done the calcs but it seems fine so far.

Also do you typically get lots of major upgrades the minute you age up? It seems like a sensible move but I’m not sure of the relative usefulness of each upgrade at each stage yet.

Also I sometimes hesitate with whether I should attack-move or patrol my army into an opposing army, and how effective those things are. I've watched a lot of content on YouTube but also still trying to wrap my ahead around alleged issues with DE that may be altering my experience.

All that said I'm just very excited to be facing a new game with a seemingly steep learning curve. Do you have any tips for a newer players or heuristics for balancing economy or anything else?

What is with this tower "wall in" strat?

Ive not been playing AoE 2 for that long and im pretty nooby, but i just started playing ranked and twice now ive had people rush my base and wall me in.

The first guy built houses around my entire base then rushed castle and built like 3 castles so it was gg.

The second built 2 towers around my gold and then rushed castle, but luckily i had a backup gold and built a tower stopping him from getting that gold then killed the villagers building the castle since he had no troops and he resigned.

Is this a legit strat or is it pure cheese? Feels like cheese.

Are Keeps too expensive? Especially in comparison to Bombard Towers.

The trouble I have with Keeps, and in fact towers of all sorts, is that they take stone. Even in a good game, getting more than three castles in a game is really rare for me, but having less castles than your opponent is a really good way to lose, since they can make more unique units than you.

Building even one or two towers can mean not being as likely to be able to make my third castle, which can often lose me the game.

But even worse, Keeps cost the same amount of Stone as Bombard Towers!

Bombard towers are almost always a way better choice than Keeps, because they can actually do something when ungarrisoned.

Sure, Bombard Towers cost gold instead of wood, but that doesn't really matter in the earlier parts of the Imperial Age when gold is more plentiful, and even in the later parts of the game when gold is more valuable, the stone is easily worth 5 times more than the gold, so we're looking at maybe a 20% increase in cost for a huge increase in offensive capacity!

I don't like the idea of Keeps being spammed around willy-nilly, but it would be nice if there were some point past a trush where building keeps is actually worth it.

Would it be balanced at all to reduce the stone cost for towers with each additional upgrade? Maybe down to 100 with Guard Towers, and then to 75 stone with the Keep upgrade?

That was Trushes aren't really impacted, but Keeps would at least be potentially worth building in the castle and imperial age. And most importantly, they'd at least have some advantage over building a Bombard Tower.

Civilization Match-up Discussion Round 8 Week 5: Goths vs Italians

Alaric, or the tale of what happens when you let your friend throw a party at your place

Hello and welcome back for another Age of Empires 2 civilization match up discussion! This is a series where we discuss the various advantages, disadvantages, and quirks found within the numerous match ups of the game. The goal is to collectively gain a deeper understanding of how two civilizations interact with each other in a variety of different settings. Feel free to ask questions, pose strategies, or provide insight on how the two civilizations in question interact with each other on any map type and game mode. This is not limited to 1v1 either. Feel free to discuss how the civilizations compare in team games as well! So long as you are talking about how the two civilizations interact, anything is fair game! Last week we discussed the Mongols vs Slavs, and next up is the Goths vs Italians!

Goths: Infantry civilization

  • Infantry cost -35% starting in Feudal Age
  • Infantry +1 attack vs buildings
  • Villagers +5 attack against boar; hunters carry +15 meat
  • +10 maximum population limit in Imperial Age
  • TEAM BONUS: Barracks work +20% faster
  • Unique Unit: Huskarl (Anti-archer infantry with high pierce armor)
  • Castle Age Unique Tech: Anarchy (create Huskarls at Barracks)
  • Imperial Age Unique Tech: Perfusion (Barracks work +100% faster)

Italians: Archer and Naval civilization

  • Aging up costs -15%
  • Docks techs cost -50%
  • Fishing Ships cost -15%
  • Gunpowder units cost -20% (I just realized that all their unique bonuses are discounts lol)
  • TEAM BONUS: Condottiero available at Barracks in Imperial Age
  • Unique Unit: Genoese Crossbowman (Heavy, anti-cavalry foot archer)
  • Unique Unit: Condottiero (Fast, expensive, anti-gunpowder infantry)
  • Castle Age Unique Tech: Pavise (Archers and Genbows +1/+1 armor)
  • Imperial Age Unique Tech: Silk Road (Trade units cost -50%)

Below are some match up-specific talking points to get you all started. These are just to give people ideas, you do not need to address them specifically if you do not want to!

  • Okay so neither of these civs are fan-favorites when it comes to 1v1 on open maps. Nevertheless, I personally see Italians as having a decent edge just due to their sheer flexibility, as well as their cheaper hand cannons. Nevertheless, it can be hard to pressure Goths without a strong early/mid-game eco or military bonus. Thoughts on this match up on open maps?
  • On closed maps, you might think Goths can shine a bit more due to being more easily able to boom into their infantry spam, however, FC monk rush seems quite good for Italians on Arena, and on BF Italians can also make good use of their slow, deadly late game army. How does this match up look on more closed maps?
  • Both unique units are an interesting comparison in my opinion - both are designed to counter their natural counter units, if that makes sense. In general, archers counter infantry, and the huskarl reverses that. Same goes for cavalry being naturally strong vs archers, but the genbow counters the cavalry. What do you think of these counter-counter units in the contexts of their respective civs?

Is the attack move command broken?

Before, when using attack move (R), selected units would attack anything in LoS instantly (As they should). Since the update it feels completely broken. They do not attack at all and instead awkwardly move towards the clicked location, pause for a moment and then attack. Like I can be right next to many enemy units, click attack move almost right on them and they will walk around or even into the group, towards the location without attacking, then just stand there idle for two seconds, and THEN attack. I don't hear anyone talking about this. I have verified the game files etc and nothing seems to be wrong. Anyone?

How Do You Counter The Persian Douche on Nomad

Try as I might, I feel like if your opponent is Persian, scouts you, and drops a TC on you around the same time you set your tc up (maybe you don't see theirs) you just lose. Unless I'm severely underestimating TC DPS in dark age you probably won't get out that many vills before your TC goes down and I can't imagine you'd be ahead.

Thankfully it hasn't happened to me yet.

Returning Player

I have played and loved this game for years. I played loads of LAN games with my family and vs. AI. I could beat a hard almost all the time, but now I'm struggling to. I just picked the Extended Edition DLC up, and I really enjoy it. I never got too deep into complex gameplay and strategy as I mostly did light fun stuff. I am fairly good at AOE3, but the two games are fairly different so I can't carry over all I do in that game. Are there any good videos I can look to or YouTubers that make good content for AOM? Imagine being able to track villagers through the game.

Every villager is different and is living his own life. Where some villagers live from the dawn of ages to the conquering of other civilisations, others die on their first mission to lure a boar.

I'd like it to be able to see where my first villagers end up between all the massed villagers when booming, I'm thinking some way of seeing the in game minute the villagers was "born" or just to see that it is the #nd villager created. It would for example be fun to see that your very first villager is send to the front line to castle drop together with villagers created just a minute ago.

Would it be possible to make a visual mod for this in any way? Villagers could grow grey hair for example

1v1 trade carts steals gold from opponent

If anyone watches NAC3 T90 and Nili had an idea while viper and Hera were playing that if you could manage to get a trade cart to your opponents market it would reduce the gold from the opponent. I think this is pretty cool idea any thoughts?

1000 elo player loving a surprising unit

I started playing as the Celts rolling into town with a bunch of scorpions and I am loving it! I have always considered the unit to be very weak, a lot of high level players and caster agree it is the least powerful siege vehicle. But it can be very easy to mass and once you have 6 or so on stand ground you can wipe any unit. Watch out for Onagers of course.

I've noticed at my elo a lot of players are having a hard time dealing with it so I'm getting wins. Might be fun for some other players who feel stuck in a rut. Play a heavy siege civ

AoE DE 'lag' issues on 'LAN'?

Hello everyone,

Just hoping anyone here has any idea of what I could do to fix the problem.
We keep hosting local games under the 'LAN' server (There's no actual LAN I think?) and it's a 50/50 on whether the game will work well or not.

Some games go smoothly all the way; others go smoothly and then suddenly one of us will get terrible input delay while the other will be working just fine; so I can only assume it has something to do with one of our computers or connections, has anyone got a clue what it could be?

Help a Macbook user who loves Age of Empires

I have a 2011 era macbook.

I am NOT a computer guru by any means.

I would LOVE to relive my childhood glory days by playing the original (or closest thing to it) "Age of Empires" via Steam, but on my apple Laptop running MAC OS 10.11.6 El Capitan.

Is there any easy or not super hackery way to accomplish that? I know there are a few option, but please keep in mind I suck at computer trickery.

I've read about and sorta tried Wine, and winebottle, and Run on Mac, and Porting kit, but I either did all the steps wrong, or they didn't work on my computer.

Can anyone else (in normal words) the easiest way to play a "PC-only" STEAM game on my macbook?

How do you play Ranked in DE

Dumb question, but I haven't been able to find an answer.

I bought AOE2 DE Last Sat, I was able to play a few matches on MP on a Lobby I joined, but I think that is non-ranked, When I tried to play in a Ranked Match, I would always end up getting queued for more than 10 minutes or something like that? Aren't there too many players? What is the usual wait time to play ranked?

Which civ would suit returning player best? (DE)

Bought DE like 1 week ago, finnaly have some time to play it. I just noticed how many new civilizations there are since HD. Wanted to play some multiplayer but I honestly have no idea where to start - my ex-favourite Briton Longbows aren't working as good as they used to and I don't want to play cocky tactics like dark/feudal rush. Most interesting game modes for unequal skill levels

I tend to play with some friends that are not particularly good at the game, and also sometimes I just want to have an enjoyable unranked game. Not that I am particularly great (1150ish) but it's a fair gap between my friends and I.

What would you say are the most enjoyable modes for a casual game? Regicide? Arena? A standard 3v3 or 4v4 will still end up with weaker players crushed quickly if there's one or two strong players.

I am running AOE2 on a Windows Surface Book 2. Its got great specs but I can't get more than a 950 on the Ranked benchmark and even then its on lowest settings.

Any suggestions?

Aoe2 + WW2

Been on Aoe2 since Age Of Kings. What an excellent game...never gets old. Love DE. Anyways, been watching World War 2 in Colour on NetFlix and it has been wondering, is there a game out there that is identical to AoE but for WW2 time period? I’ve been finding games like Blitzkrieg and Steel Division but they don’t seem similar enough to AoE to be worth trying. I want a game that will start with a civ (Germans, Americans, Japanese, etc.) that starts from the ground up building “villagers” to build an economy to eventually support units. After watching WW2 in Colour it really seems there should be an AoE game for this time period. Unique units like Japanese Zeroes and tanks, infantry, aircrafts, navy that all have a strength and a weakness. This is the AoE community so I know that you all know the game play....where’s the WW2 version? What’s it called?!?!?
