Announcing a casual Summer Tournament: The Gilded Brain Tournament

The Gilded Brain 1v1 summer Tournament

This will be a 1 vs 1 tournament with 2 leagues, so everybody has a chance fighting similar players. The 16 highest rated players (based on 1v1 elo) will play in the 10.000 iq league. The 16 lowest rated players (based on 1v1 elo) will play in the 10.000.000 iq league. If you are unranked the tournament admins have the right to choose which league you participate in.

Timeframe:

• Sign-up Deadline: 6 PM (GMT+1) Sunday, 18th of July

• Seeding and brackets: Monday, 19th of July

• Group stages: Monday, 19th of July – Monday 9th of August – Best of 3

• Round of 8: Monday 9th of August – Monday 16th of August – Best of 3

• Semifinals: Friday 20th of August - Sunday 23rd of August – Best of 5

• Finals: Friday 27th of August – Sunday 29th of August – Best of 7

Settings:

• Gamemode: 1 vs 1 RM
• (2 player map size, 200 pop, lock speed normal, AI difficulty standard, resources standard, starting age standard, ending age standard, treaty length none, hidden civ, record match)
• Victory/win condition: see below

• Format: Group stage for seeding then single elimination brackets
• Number of Players: 16 per league

Rules

1. Laming is allowed.

2. You’re responsible for the settings. Both players should check the settings before starting the game. If players notice incorrect settings then the both players may agree to restart. If the opponent disagrees then the game will be continued with the incorrect settings.

3. Matches are played on the latest patch. Only if there are performance issues then players can request at the admin to play on a previous patch.

4. If a player disconnects, the game must be restored. Only if a restore doesn’t work should the game be restarted.

5. Players have to respect the deadlines. When a problem occurs with scheduling a match the players need to contact the admins. If a player isn’t available to play a match during the scheduled time then they can be granted an admin win/loss.

Brackets

During the group stage there will be 4 groups of 4. Each player will play against every other player in their group once. The strongest two players will move on and the weakest two players will be eliminated. If draws occur the players must play a sudden death best of 1 decider match.

Play-offs: Players who move on from the group stage get seeded into the bracket stage (this is done randomly but players from the same group will be seeded on the other half so they can only meet again in the finals). The playoffs then function like a single elimination tournament.

Initial groups will be seeded based on time zone to help schedule matches more easily.

Note: the settings should be standard, be aware that these settings will ask you to change to ‘recommended settings’ with high resources, don’t do that.

If a draw occurs during the group stage, the players must play a best of 1 sudden death Socotra match.

Civilization picks

Civilization picks are hidden civs, no repeat picks. Players may also agree to play on visible civs where both take full random. If either player does not want this then they must play hidden civs, no repeat picks. (Repeat only counts for your own civs of course).

Players may agree to extend their series before they start. So they can agree to turn a best of 3 into a best of 5 before they start the series.

Prize pool

The tournament has no prize pool and is just about having some fun over summer. I’ll send you a trophy.png that I handmade in Microsoft paint and spent at least 5 minutes on. Plus you can brag.
