Defeating Knight/Pike Compositions (with Malians)

I play a lot of Malians, and I have had some trouble recently when my opponent goes knight/pike (or cavalier/halb). My general gameplan is archers -> knights -> (camel if enemy makes cavalier, champskarl if enemy makes archer). This works amazingly against archer civs, but against civs like Franks, champskarls are useless, and Farimba camels struggle when the opponent mixes in pike/halb.

I've had a few games like this now, and I'm starting to think I need to just go arbalest (even though Malians don't have bracer) against a comp like this. But I wanted to get some thoughts from the community in case there was something I was missing.
