So I'm a 1550 ELO steady player and I hate Franks
Try to push? Lol castles everywhere. Base trading isn't an option either.
Try to hold? Lol cavaliers with extra health being produced from like 4 stables nonstop, supported by the Castles.
Make halbs? Lol, lemme just attack you from 4 directions, like I give a shit, oh and also that Castle that costs less will take care of them.
Make camels? Lol, I'll make halbs.
Make crossbows? Lol, Halbs don't need micro, just pick off crossbows with cavaliers, oh, I also get onager with siege engineers!
So what exactly do I do? Yes, knights are gold intensive, but camels and crossbows are also very gold intensive (and more so) and they easily need a lot more micro and are fucked over by the addition of just halbs if not throwing axemen (which by the way, is less gold intensive than camel + crossbow).
Lets say I go halbs myself and archers, no way I'll win, they'll just send their knights all over my base again because I have no mobility. Pepper my base with Halbs? I guess that could work, it would deal with both hussar/paladin, or just wall better although my "4 direction" joke was exactly about that. Stone wall? Even less Castles for you against the horde of Frank Castles.
Champion + archer? That just outright dies not only to cavalier/pala, but also to any Frank that knows they have an UU.
So what do I do? What is the magical formula to deal with Franks? I can deal with any other Cav civ easily by playing normally, Camel, Crossbow and Halbs (gold intensive, sure, but the game won't drag that much most of the time, most don't use Siege either), but not versus the Franks, because they have a shitload of support from their castles and their Cavaliers/Paladins are the third strongest in the game. I just don't get it.
