Are strategy / management games more complex now, then they used to be?

Hi. I am 24 years old.

I have played excessive pc video games since I was 12 till I was 16.

I have played some strategy video games then. They are

Rise of Nations

Age of Empires

Roller Coaster Tycoon 1, 2

The Alchemist (apparently this game is no where to be found in the Internet, or anything remotely related to it even!)

Stronghold Crusaders

What was simple back then was that how incredibly simple these games were. They were very linear games. You basically had to build the biggest and baddest army and then crush your enemies. Building economy was a necessary chore.

Now at the age of 22-24 I have tried games like

Football Manager

Civilization V

Total Medieval War II

Hearts of Iron

Cities Skylines

Crusader Kings II

And jeez, the games that I play now are so fucking complex. I don't know if I am not as smart or motivated as I used to be or if the games have gotten complex.

Civilization V - There are so many ways to play and win the game. And having an enormous army can have negative impact.

Total Medieval war - It is just not as graphic as old games, it is more textual, you don't get to see the buildings get built or even after they are finished.

Crusader Kings II - This one is so strange, at times it got repetitive. I wasn't really sure if I was moving in the direction I should move. I just didn't understand how to quickly expand or even expand at all. I was just passing through generation after generation of Kings.

Football Manager - The only game, that I think I managed to master. I played this one for 1,200 hours. Won champions League and did everything one would want to.

Cities Skylines - Fairly easy to understand. Everything was graphic.

I feel that these games have way more options and possibilities than the old ones. They also tend to be less linear and at times less graphic and more textual too
