Getting started with Aoe3

Hey, let's get you started! I'm assuming you already know how aoe 3 is different from the predecessors since you wouldn't be here otherwise. If not I suggest you check it out.

Here is a link to the decks I use. http://ift.tt/2w5t4KD

Instructions are probably in the folder or on the site but if not, you need to go to Documents -> My Games -> Age of Empires 3 -> Save game. You'll find all your home cities there. What you need to do is replace the already existing xml files in this folder with the files you just downloaded. A buddy of mine made these decks so credits to him. There are decks for most of the common strategies and you can edit it to your preference, although most of the decks are for TAD.

The basics tips for playing well with any civ:

  • Map control (control of good resources with outposts, town centers, forts and castles)

  • Not losing many villagers to raids and rushes (I can't count the number of times I've won in spite of the enemy rushing me, just because I didn't lose any villagers even though the enemy took out my town center.)

  • Have LOS (Line of Sight) over most of the map so that you know what units are coming and counter them accordingly.

  • Market and economic upgrades as soon as possible

  • Not hesitant to sell or buy resources from the market (I've played with some who don't use the market to it's fullest)

  • Herding your hunts to towncenter/ any building that helps with map control.

  • Non-stop villager production

  • Setting up three tcs as soon as possible

  • Having a better economy/ score than your opponent.

  • If booming/turtling, having atleast 2 barracks to quickly make troops to counter rushes.

  • Using the church mercantilsim (1500 exp) when necessary.
