How do you counter skirmishers in feudal as a meso civ?

I just played a mayans (me) vs huns arabia 1v1. I was doing an archer rush, and had 1 minute faster feudal, but he scouted as I was building my first range, built a forward range, and started building skirms. At this point I had around 3 archers, and he had 1 or 2 skirms. I did not see the forward until I was massing my archers to attack saw the first 2 skirms (his forward was also on a hill right next to my ranges).

I ended up trying to make skirms myself, and supplementing them with some eagle scouts, but it did not work, I could not get enough eagles, and my eco was messy cause he also trushed with the forward. What would you do in this situation?

  • Make a second barracks instead of second range and start pumping eagle scouts? I had some gold because of the archers, so I had the resources for it.
  • Do m@a and transition to skirms If he transitions to archers?
  • Go full skirm war and try to win by numbers/upgrades.
  • Ignore skirms, wall up a bit, go FC
  • Make first range send archers to enemy, while second does defensive skirms, wall a bit and wall?
  • Scouts are not an option, but on other civs they would be a good choice right?

There are lots of options, but none seemed good, was I just fucked from the get go from bad scouting and not seeing his forward? Or is there anything I'm not seeing.
