Looking through red and green glass (simple optics)?

I was looking through red and green glass pebbles at a light source. The red was red and the green was green. But when I stacked them it was red, no matter what the order was (red green vs green red).

How is that possible? I thought green glass blocked red and blue and red glass blocked green and blue. Why was it not black? Thanks
