MAGYARS: The Untold Truth

I’ll keep this as brief as I can, the truth about the Magyars is that they are a powerhouse civilization but are largely misunderstood. Here are some commonly unknown or unsaid things about that great Hungarian civilization, THE MAGYARS:

  • The Rush Master: Magyars have the 2nd best scout rush (behind mongols). They can forward buildings easily for a M@A and archer rush with their wolf slaying vills, which also lends well to a tower rush. And IMO they have the best knight rush in the game because their knights get free offensive upgrades.

  • Chuck Norris Villagers: This is NOT an eco bonus! It’s a strategic bonus that grants Magyars huge advantages. A single vill can be sent immediately to the best wall-off spot and sneak behind enemy lines on black forest, or just a vill or two can build forward barracks/ranges near the enemy on Arabia.

  • Cav Archers: Magyar CA are the longest ranging CA in game. Huns have better CA due to cost, but he can’t resist the Magyar halbs, skirms, and champions when they show up at his base.

  • The Magyar Huszar: This unit is misused a lot. It is mainly a compliment to the main army, I only use it as my main army when my gold is cut off, or in late castle/imp if massed and paired with cav archers. • MUST have defenses upgraded • Nullifies enemy siege (huge) • 14 attack 6 pierce armor when fully upgraded makes a great raider • 16 second build time easily amassed, and for a boomed Magyar, endlessly massed • Wave after wave of these can enter enemy bases via petard and REK villagers and TC’s before pikes arrive. Especially effective if the enemy is distracted by fighting on the front. • If gold is cut off by the enemy, the Magyar Huszar can be paired with skirms to counter crossbows, pikes, skirms, siege, and monks (yeah, yeah, they don’t hard counter monks like light cav but one Magyar Huszar lost is nothing for the death of a monk, plus skirms can kill the monk). Magyar Huszars do well against cav archers, and trade ok with infantry due to not costing gold. • If the enemy reaches imp first, it usually takes him many tries before he learns what he must do to protect his trebs from my Magyars. I only have to get one or two Magyars through to his treb. This gives me plenty of time to prepare my army or go up to imp to push back.

  • THE MAIN INGREDIENT: The Magyars have a wide open tech tree minus gunpowder. This means they can build an army centered on FU champions, arbalests, paladins, or cav archers. They aren’t restricted to playing their civ strength like most civs! After the initial rush I center my army around a gold unit that counters the enemy and many times it takes him by surprise because he expects me to stick with cav. Just as the Byzantines are a defensive counter civ, the Magyar is an offensive counter civ due to its tech tree. This ability, paired with the strong rush, the Magyar Huszar raiding, early vill strategies, and lack of dependency on gold makes this civ a powerhouse.

Leave your opinion below, just don't get bent out of shape if someone doesn't agree with you ;)
