New player here

Hey guys, I'm new to the game. Love it so far. But I have a question, how long should a match or round last? I played civ5 for a long time but always got told my matches lasted so long it must be being. Like 950-1000 turns sorta thing. So far my current match seems to be going a long time. My first one I didn't even attack anyone but won because they all killed themselves or retired. Any advice would be great!
