No idea how to go about approaching my future in physics

I always used to think I was going into pure physics, I'd work in academia with a research position and that would be that. Lately as reality sets in and I approach the real world I'm not sure it would go just as planned. I'm super confident but I'm not riding my life for years to get a Ph.D and end up dead ended cus I can't get a job in academia. I read this http://ift.tt/2fi1O5z and it just confused me more; now I realize there are so many ways to go I'm not sure which way is best. I've been leaning into finance, but I have no idea what to do, a degree, a masters, a major in physics and minor in what etc? Can someone simplify the physics job market for me
