Staff, Do you see a lot of phd student dropping out this year ?

I'm not sure why, but this year I see a lot of phd student in my institute quitting before the end of their contract. I'm in France so the phd are not very long (3 years) but still some of them stop because it's too hard to write, some just don't come to work anymore, some say it's too hard...

It's the first time i see that, it is a sign of the times or statistical fluctuation ?
