The meaning of g instead of gg

When a game is finished, players will usually exchange gg...or good game. Sometimes, a player will simply type g. When you say g instead of gg, what do you mean?

I interpreted "g" as; you played well, but I didn't. However, last night I was watching games on my channel with friends and was very surprised to learn that people disagreed on the meaning of g instead of gg. Some felt that g meant something closer to "you win, but you didn't play well".

In retrospect, I feel like a douche for typing g at the end of so many games.
