Terrible performance on AOM:EE,how to improve lag?

Bought the game through Humble last week and am very dis-appointed with how laggy the game is especially when you get to the later stages of games it's unplayable. But the thing is me and my brother bought the game at exactly the same time although he bought it directly through steam and even-though our laptops are the exact same kind his works fine and mine is laggy as fuck. I have tried all the different options recommended through online guides and shit but nothing works. Any advice guys?
