Hello everyone,
I (like many other I imagine) had some classic staples for video gaming in their childhood that stuck around throughout their adult years. This has come in the forms of me looking for old copies of FPS games on Ebay that I used to play, checking up on any progress for once-loved series (RIP Dawn of War), or just watching some old gameplay to get a smile on your face. However, when it comes to Real Time Strategy games, my heart still feels like I could jump right back into being fully invested. This also comes at a point in time where seemingly every good RTS game has either faded out of existence or just lost fan support.
So with that being said, I want to address the emptiness I've felt in recent RTS games in hopes that I'm not the only one.
It seems like every RTS game I run into pushes further and further away from the 1990's - 2000's era model that worked so well for so many massive hits (AOE, Starcraft, DoW) - the simple "collect, build, train, kill" formula. But with the addition of MOBA elements and a complete lack of the "economic" side of these war based games... I fear that the old and beloved style of RTS games might be gone for good.
If this post was a nightmare, it would be Age Of Empires 4 being released as a freemium iPhone game....
Does anyone else feel the same frustration I do? I just want to make sure I'm not the only guy in the world who misses this.
TLDR; RTS games r bad now, pls make good again
