I am so excited to see people are still playing Aoe2 multiplayer! Please help me catch up on what's new :)

This game was such a big part of my childhood and teens! I didn't know people were still playing it.

Is there anywhere I can read up on what's new? I see (watching on twitch) there are new civs since AoC.

I want to get involved asap. Was always a bit of a noob so not expecting to play high level games, are noobs still playing?

Where are people playing multiplayer? I stopped fairly soon after MSFT closed their platform; played on a few multiplayer platforms after that, can't remember what they was called off the top of my head.

Is it possible to play smooth multiplayer on mac using something like WINE?
