I'm a casual HD player. Due to life/work/family I only play a handful or two of games per week. I'm so casual that I haven't even bothered trying to get on Voobly if that tells you anything. That said, I've loved this game since I was a kid. It's balance and unmatched variance from game to game (different maps, # of players, civs) keeps me constantly entertained. So here's my dilemma:
I don't think I'm going to switch over to DE. The graphics (while beautiful) look too involved to me. I'd have to learn all new hotkeys, maps, etc. If it was a simple update or add-on to the current game in which most of the game didn't change but a new map pack was added, or new civs added, then I'd definitely follow the masses and I'd be excited for the new civ or map. I know there's little future in a 20 year old video game that doesn't change and can't produce more money to support it, but I'm just super content with AoE2 right now.
- Does anyone else feel this way? I'm not bashing DE at all. I'm just being realistic with myself: that it's too big of a change that I won't follow through with.
- Assuming DE is great and a large % of people follow, I'm wondering if HD & Voobly would somehow "combine" communities so old farts like me can all be in one play to play the old non-DE version together?
