Game refuses to launch from steam?

I'm trying to run the game, but it won't open. Even after I remove all the mods so it's just base, it doesn't. I click play, it opens the launcher, I click play on that, it opens the 'validating subscriptions' thingy, then when that's done, it just closes. It worked when I last played a few months ago, but not now. My computer hasn't changed at all.

EDIT: This is the 2013 HD edition, because apparently there's a definitive edition just been released I didn't know about
