Long Swordsmen do not counter Huskarls. 2HS do not counter Elite Huskarls. The only truth is Champions counter Elite Huskarls, but that has been extrapolated by many to give false information.
Proof: Before starting the comparison, let me remind that I am excluding Goth mirror. Supplies maybe a good addition though. Huskarls are significantly faster and capable of running away. Huskarls are much better against ranged units and defences at all stages.
Huskarl vs LS: 56F 28G vs 60/45F 20G. 10 attack vs 9 attack. All other stats are same. 1vs1 the Huskarl wins easily. You may think that LS are much cheaper and easier to mass, but if you are really fighting infantry vs infantry, the Goth player won't hesitate to switch into his LS, which are even cheaper. With the upcoming buff of +1 armor to LS, the two units will be evenly matched in a duel.
EHuskarl vs 2HS: Both units have the same 12 attack. The fact that Goths miss the last armor upgrade means that 2HS have an advantage of 1 attack. But wait, this also means that the Goth discount has increased further. Elite Huskarls also come with +10 HP advantage over the 2HS. This looks like an even fight now in a 1vs1, and going massed infantry makes you vulnerable to Goth infantry. With the upcoming buff of +1 armor to 2HS, the 2HS should own this fight.
Always remember, try to use infantry only if you have superior infantry to deal with the Swordsmen line switch too. Civilizations like Japanese, Burmese, Teutons can own the Goths with their own superior sword line, which are naturally boosted. Another good unit can be the Serjeant considering its lower dependence on castles. My personal favourite will be Slingers with some Swordsmen/Kamayuks in front.
