Post your Viper experience

Years ago (around 2013, I think), I discovered Voobly. Now, I had been playing aoe2 since, like, 2001. So I was pretty much the best against my friends - that's the sign that you're ready for online matches, right?

So anyway, I download Voobly, play a couple of matches (it was nomad-style, but I don't remember the exact game type). Obviously, I lose. Then I enter a 1v1 match against this guy called TheViper. Now, I still hadn't fully understood the elo rating system so I wasn't aware of what I was getting myself into. We start the game.

I proceed at my leisurely pace. Use the villagers to scout around a little bit (sigh), then build a mill near some deer. Remember, the TC is idle all this time. Anyway, fast forward 15 minutes, and I get attacked by somebody. This was a islands game IIRC (there were just two big islands; I didn't even explore the seas well to know if there were other smaller islands). So it's alarming that I get attacked. I quickly build a small feudal age army and go see what the fuss is about.

Oh, and then I resigned.

He had built a massive army of siege, cavalry and archers, transported them, moved villagers, started a mini-economy (by his standards), built defensive buildings on my island and I was blissfully unaware the whole time.

Anyway, that's my first and only encounter with TheViper. But he was such a nice guy and offered to teach me: he started another unrated 1v1 and taught me the basics - build orders, what to do when you're attacked early, towers, and so on.

That's my Viper experience. Post yours :)
