What AoE2:DE could do for maps

Although the HD expansions fixed a lot of bugs and balanced a couple of maps, there was one thing that they have yet to fix. Bugged map gen. Occasionally, animals and other key resources spawn trapped behind woodlines, especially on Arena.

The reason that this bugged map gen wasn't fixed is presumably because it's very difficult and they'd have to totally change up the map code.

And AoE2:DE is starting a lot of things from scratch, right?

So potentially, we could see the maps have less bugs in AoE2:DE.

There's also another thing to do with maps, and that's just general balancing.

The HD expansions did make fish and relic distribution a lot more fair, and the fish were removed on Oasis, and Salt Marsh was revamped, but there are still a lot of maps that are too unbalanced for competitive play. Scandinavia often has deer spawn in harder places to hunt for some players than others, Archipelago is just unbalanced because of shape, and oasis is often way easier to wall for some people than others and it also is easy to snowball by getting all of the res in a certain area that you can control and then win the game easily. This is all stuff that I feel could be fixed in AoE2:DE, and it would allow people to use lots of different maps in tournaments, making it more fun and varied.

What does everyone else think? I heard they're using the same engine as AoE2 HD, is that true?
