My friend asked me a question today, and got me thinking ... He asked me why when a bottle and a straw(In the bottle) falls and hits the ground, the straw bounces up at a higher height and out of the bottle He said it was the transfer of momentum from contact of bottle with ground to bottle with straw. I agreed with him but can anyone verify this?
Also, wouldn't this only work if the straw is travelling at a slower speed? I was thinking , if the experiment is conducted at a condition such that the fall height is small; ie negligible resistance, then they would fall with the same acceleration. So, would they jump up to the same height? Thanks for reading!
