Can someone please tell me all factors which determine whether a boar will go back or not when luring it with a scout cavalry?

I have lately started stealing boars but find it very difficult to do so with the scout because the boar goes back much more often than with the eagle scout. I know distance is the biggest factor but for some reason I feel there are other factors because the boar often goes back even when i'm not that far away with the scout cavalry.
