Discussion about Khmer (are they any good?)

I'm considering getting back into AOE2 and I really love elephants. I remember last time I dabbled in the game I played with the Khmer, but now that I looked up their wiki it seems that their weaknesses outweigh their benefits, at least based on the article.

It seems to me that they are a 'cheesy, castle age all in' type of civ with the potential to have a strong IMP army until their gold runs out, at which point they are dead.

Am I correct in my observations? If so, are they still playable, are their all-ins deadly enough?

Primarily for 1v1 (I think they are stronger in teamgames because infinite gold and such)
