Hey r/aoe2, I'm a longtime player of AOE2 (it was the first ever game I played, back in like...2003?) and I've had the HD edition for over a year now. I've been lurking on this subreddit for a while, and I can't seem to find an answer to my question about the Slavs, so I figured I would ask y'all. So here goes.
It seems like every thread I've found online talking about the Slavs and their bonus talks about how it "saves wood" from building houses, but I don't see it.
The cheapest military building you can get, a Barracks, is 175 wood. 175 wood for +5 population, versus building 7 houses for the same price and getting 30 more population.
How exactly does the bonus work? Am I wrong in that it only impacts unit-production military buildings? In what situations is it more beneficial to build military buildings instead of houses (for the population bonus)?
