AoE2 API

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there is a way to write scripts in AoE2 for the AI. AoE2 is my favourite game and I was wondering if there was an API to write scripts in python, there are many similar projects for Sc2, but like a trebuchet to a catapult I believe AoE2 is superior to Sc2. Any info is very much appreciated!
