Newish player questions

My backstory is that I played this game when I was a kid and loved it. I randomly found T90official on youtube and after watching videos I downloaded HD. I play a handful of games at most per week. My rating hangs around 1600 HD although it’s been as high as 1675 (I can beat the AI on hardest 1v1 with regularity). I mostly play team games because it’s more fun and random. I’m not obsessed with getting a high ranking, just like having fun. Now after playing for a few months I’ve got some questions:

• If you’re researching an upgrade or clicking up to imp and your building/tc is destroyed, do you get those resources back? Obviously you lose the time and have to rebuild the building, but do you get those resources back?
• If you select villagers who are in the middle of mining gold and you tell them to build a TC, when the TC is built do they auto drop off the gold? I know you can have a vill stop collecting a resource and build something and they'll hold that resource if you then have them go back to the same task. If a gold miner builds a house then is told to cut wood he/she loses the gold they had, right?
• If you’ve queued up a bunch of say, skirms, and the range is destroyed, do you get those resources back? Will those skirms auto go over to another range next to it if you ordered them by having both ranges selected and spamming the S hotkey?
• I play on HD (I know I’m a noob) and before the game starts while you’re waiting in that holding screen, it’ll show the players with their colors and after their name it says something like [ms ###] and a players number can be anywhere from 000 to 120 to 500. Does this have any meaning? Does it have any correlation to ping?
• In HD, does saving and exiting the game ever work? I’ve been in games where we keep lagging but no one has lagged out, so we agree to save and exit. I go to my saved games folder and click on the last game I was playing only to see everyone’s name in yellow meaning they aren’t there and their civ is stated as Aztecs? Rarely if ever have I see someone else come back into that same screen as me.
• What’s a good strategy for Persians on nomad? I never pick them but if I get it randomly I have no clue what to do. They don’t get bombards which I like. I don’t care for elephants in general but esp on nomad because it seems cavs are better on nomad and elephants get countered by pikes which players usually have right away in feudal nomad
• TWITCH FRUSTRATE ME!! It never loads videos, even short videos. I've tried on two different laptops. Does anyone else have any problems with it? It's the main reason why i only watch youtube videos from T90, nili, viper, etc.
  
• Finally, and most importantly: does anyone else think T90 sounds like Scott Van Pelt? And I mean this is the most sincere way. T90 could commentate almost anything and I’d think it would be interesting
