This is something that won't change the game strategy but would improve game quality, so called -QoL improvement.
I'd like some indication of what resources my ally needs. There are often times when I have excess resource of one kind. At this point, it's a waste because I cannot use those resources. I want to request a feature where I could tell if any of my allies needs it so that I can donate it to them. There could be multiple ways to implement this I think.
1) An ally average is taken for each resource, averaged against resource usage in the last 10 minutes. So if I've spent 1k food, 2k wood, 3k, gold, 4k stone and currently I have in my coffers 2k food, 2k wood, 2k gold, 2k stone, then effectively, I am short on gold and stone. The ratios are 2, 1, 0.66, 0.5. I'd like some kinda green-red indicators for each ally so I can easily tribute to them if I have excess of gold and stone.
Cons:
- Complex to implement.
- The amount to tribute needed is tiny bit hard to guess
Pros:
- No action needed from anyone, way of least friction.
- I don't see what resoruces my ally has, I can guess a bit what he's doing.
- I can guess the amount based on game stage
2) Just see actual resources of my ally.
Cons: Not applicable in diplo games. Pros: I know exactly how much my ally has so a bit easier to tribute. Honestly, in team-lock games, no reason to hide ally resources. In fact, I'd like the tech tree to show me my ally's current researched technologies and number of units (after carto). In tech tree, researched researches would have an indicator, in progress would have a partial shader and units would have a count next to them. (Duplicate tech tree for multiple allies of same civs). If I know my ally has just researched cavs and is pocket, and I happen to have an excess of resources, I can immediately do a 1300F, 650G and voila, game changed. While we are at it, sort tech tree by my civ, then ally civs then enemy civs. And a quick link from diplobox to tech trees for individual civs.
3) Have some kinda quick access slider for tribute request. An ally can manually set this slider for all resources. The slider "gradually" expires in a few minutes, say 4 minutes. So an indication for 1000 stone and 400 wood would be 750 stone and 300 wood after a minute. Whenever I have excess I will go to the tribute box and see who lacks what and tribute.
Cons: Requires user action. Pros: Allies get what they actually need, so donors don't see their money wasted.
These are all things probably not applicable at higher elo's but at lower elos I feel it might make the game better and probably even more fun and cooperative. There are countless times when I see my allies and myself having 4k resources of wood and 0 gold in castle, and market is too damn expensive.
I also think these are all very simple to implement (even the "complex" 1st version). And these versions are not exclusive, all 3 can be implemented.
