How do I get into AOE2?

Hi everyone! I have always been interested in RTS games. When I was younger I'd watch my family on LAN play age of empires 2 all the time and I always wanted to learn and play. I enjoy the game I used to watch spirit of the law a lot. Before the Definitive edition I had around 50 hours poured into it on Steam. I recently bought the Definitive edition however I cannot get into it as much as I can other RTS games. I've always tried however I've never been as dedicated as to say Paradox games. (1000 hours in EU4 and 600 in HOI4.) I want the same level of dedication in this game as well and I love all the aspects of the game. I just wonder am I going about playing it wrong? Is there something I'm missing? Is it that I need to find people to play with? I love games like these but I struggle to get into this one.

I think part of it is that I don't feel like I can play as casually as other RTS games. Maybe it's just me.
