As counter units go, camels seem kinda underwhelming...
To clarify, I don't mean "Heavy Camels", the maths for them works out nicely, however the same can not be said about regular camels...
Regular camels have 1 purpose and 1 purpose only, to counter knights. My complaint is that they are exceptionally meh at this. They only beat knights 1v1 if they are no more than 2 upgrades behind them (on average); and even then, due to Lanchester's law, if they don't have a numbers advantage they aren't worth while unless they are no more than 1 upgrade behind.
Imagine this, you go xbow, they go knights. You scout that they have knights so decide to make the counter units (camels) to "counter" them. Except as you started with archers you are now behind in techs and numbers and most likely will lose badly even though you are making the "counter" unit. Don't get me wrong this complaint extends to other counter units as well (particular if you start making skirms when they already have a mass of FU xbows) however its particularly bad with camels because they are useless outside of countering knights AND they cost GOLD !!!
Now at 1000-1100 elo I appreciate I am probs too noob to truly know how to use this unit properly but the above just stands out to me something that doesn't add up.
