Old player jumping back in

Hello all. I used to play back in the zone days and then on and off throughout the 00s. I stopped playing mainly because the player base had shrunk and I was into Starcraft. So I just bought the game and am in process of DL. Can I follow any Aoe 2 guides or builds and expect them to work on the definitive edition? I ask because there is information that is really old when I google "Mayan rush guide aoe2" or something similar. Any input appreciated.
