To all the people crying about how unbalanced the new civs are, just calm down a bit and hear me out.
Are the new civs OP? we can't say for sure so shortly after they are out, but I tend to say yes. However, we knew they would be. The dev team even admitted that a while back. They tend to ship new content rather on the stronger or even OP side than the other way around.
"But why are they doin' this? dont they have in hoiuse QA for this kind of stuff?" - honestly I dont know, but I'd like to imagine, they actually play their game every now and then and see if it works and maybe even have a dedicated team for it. What they surely do not have is excessive data from thousands and thousands of games played with them by all kinds of player types and to get those, they somehow have to bring people to play them, so they dont end up with a <1% playrate. Making them a strong pick surely helps with this and maybe even helps to get the DLC sold (allthough I am honestly not entirely sold on this).
If you look at the reason why they appear to be so strong it - for me at least - comes all down to the UUs, I think you dont need a degree in game design to see, that they all are overtuned. flamish militia is basically as strong as champion, the serjant is a tower building mix of a huskarl and a teutonic knight and the coustellier...well we all have seen by now that this 44dmg charge attack, is completly over the top.
But as I see it, Units are probably the easiest thing to nerf, especially when they are all melee units and that is in fact what will happen. For a few weeks the new civs get their time in the spot light, everyone gets to know them inside out, because they will be in at least half the games and the devs can gather all the data they need over that time and then they tone down their stats and everything will be fine.Do you guys remember release cumans? yeah their 2nd TC was and still is strong, but what broke them wasnt that, but rather their lightning speed fast Steppelancers that were basically uncounterable. After a bit they got nerfed and as of now cumans sit at a 46% win rate. It almost feels like a pattern is emerging here. (allthough I have to admit, that I am very curious how they will approach the coustellier, that will be a challenge for the balance team for sure)
And please dont forget, that beside the newly introduced civs, there were als some great changes made to the game. It almost felt as if they incoporated all of the most wanted/requested changes from the community. Franks got nerfed, obsidian arrows removed, foundation scouting is a thing of the past and cav archers are useable again by other players beside the Lord himself now. So just be a bit patient, relax and play the new campaign untill everything is sorted out. Cheers!
PS: I know that Lithuanians are ACTUALLY broken right now, but honestly, what would a big patch be without a game breaking bug? It would feel empty, as if something was missing and that one will for sure be hotfixed in the next 1-2 days.
