I just started playing AOE2HD after a long absence after having not played since I was younger. I joined a noob game, unranked, and said hello to everyone, and immediately got called an idiot for readying up before setting the team to random. I shrugged it off - I didn't know, I fixed the problem, no harm no foul so far.
We got into the game and I tried to remember everything that I knew how to do, and signaled enemy attacks and locations. I got overrun and completely blindsighted by two castles and 20 ranged cavalry while I was still making my first military units. I didn't know what to do, so I took all my villagers and relocated, letting them take that base.
I started reconstructing near another ally base (after asking if it was okay) and started gathering enough wood to make a new town center. Eventually he got attacked as well, and I lost my last villager. Immediately after I was killed, the other player said "gg ez" and one of my teammates said "teal was such a fucking idiot, lmfao". It felt horrible because I couldn't respond at all, and I watched until the end of the game, where my teammate lost horribly in a battle against the same person. That did feel kind of nice.
I don't get it at all. If it's specifically a noob lobby, why would you make fun of people who don't know the ins and outs/lose? Isn't it a place to try to learn and get better? Why be a jerk? On another note, why are you in a noob lobby if you can get to the Castle age in 16 minutes?
