What if melee units could poke melee attackers from inside a ram?

Imagine all your pikes poking, champs chopping, huskarls hacking... while still in the ram. You would no long need to ungarrison your forces to defend the ram from melee attackers. Would it be op? Would/Could the ram loose its speed and damage bonus while those units attack from safety? Would the melee units be attacking buildings too or could they prioritize operating the ram? Is any of these even possible to code? Maybe it is better to ungarrison so your melee units tank more of the damage and save the ram?
