There is a question that it's on my mind. Which civilization is better at swarming the enemies?? Goths or Malays?? We all know the Goth Swarm. The Hurskals are always infamous or famous (depending on who you ask) at swarming the enemies. Their bonuses are always reflected on that. Faster creation at baracks show that. And have more population. But Malays have their reason too. First Krambit warrior which is basically the epitimy of Quantity over quality both at cost and takes half the population space. Second their tech forced levy which completely eliminates gold from swordline and need only 60 food. And third their fish trap can create infinite food which is basically borderline OP. Even in map with a lake with 5 fishes, Malays can create infinite food which makes them seriously and stupidily OP. But which one do you prefer?
is there an autosave mod/option for the single player part of game? help will be appreciated
There are only two weeks for the release and we are seeing no info about the game.
Hello r/aoe2!
As you liked the last two Age of Empires castles I rebuild in Minecraft, and many of you asked me to make others as well, I decided to involve you guys into this and let you vote which one you want to see most!
As I have built the Asian and Aztec/Mayan Castles already those will be excluded.
Goths/Teutons/Hun/Vikings -
Britons/Franks/Spanish/Celts
Ethiopians/Malians
Italians/Portuguese
Khmer/Malay/Vietnamese/Burmese
Persian/Turks/Berbers/Byzantines/Indians/Saracens
Magyars/Slavs
I will count your votes in the comments and the winner will be created first.
Thank you all for participating!

In the past few months I've noticed a dramatic shift in the online aspect of this game. I will say that I'm fairly competent at this game but recently I've been stomped by people normally ranked well below me. When I look at the post game statistics they don't seem to make any sense. For instance in my last game my opponent had fewer villagers than me and yet had way more of every resource. I don't want to seem like a sore loser, I just want to know if people are cheating, then I can uninstall the game and maybe get DE. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I received an invitation to the beta with a code, I’ve try down loading this through the activate a product on steam but after pasting the code and clicking next I’m told please first activate the original game. What do I have to do to get past this part?
Just wondering all abandonware sites say you need XP or an older operating system can I do it without a virtual machine
Is it me, or does the DE use Age of Empires I's melee and archer attack sounds? Saw a clip where that seemed to be the case, which I would consider quite a pity! I also notice that some of the units don't feel perfectly represented -- Cataphracts and Light Cavalry so far.
I don't have the beta so can't confirm myself.

So I got the email a couple of days ago and I followed all of the instructions but when I get to the part when I am redirected to the windows store page it says I need an admins approval despite it saying I own the game. My windows is fully updated I’m using the right account and I meet the system requirements.
I haven't try Aoe3 is it good enough? why there many love for Aoe2 than the latest?

Wtf I've literally done one of these every Wednesday for the past 100 weeks LUL. Quick message at the end of the post.
Hello and welcome back for another Age of Empires 2 civilization match up discussion! This is a series where we discuss the various advantages, disadvantages, and quirks found within the numerous match ups of the game. The goal is to collectively gain a deeper understanding of how two civilizations interact with each other in a variety of different settings. Feel free to ask questions, pose strategies, or provide insight on how the two civilizations in question interact with each other on any map type and game mode. This is not limited to 1v1 either. Feel free to discuss how the civilizations compare in team games as well! So long as you are talking about how the two civilizations interact, anything is fair game! Last week we discussed the Italians vs Vikings, and next up is the Malians vs Mongols!
Malians: Infantry Balanced civilization
Mongols: Cavalry Archer civilization
Below are some match up-specific talking points to get you all started. These are just to give people ideas, you do not need to address them specifically if you do not want to!
Thank you as always for participating! When I started doing these 100 weeks ago now, it was with the intention of creating some actual, solid, gameplay discussion at least once a week that might force people to think outside the box with match ups not often seen. I had no idea how well this would be received or for how long I'd do it, but every week seems to generate good discussion so I just keep doing them. Obviously we are not even 25% done with all the match ups, but so long as you guys keep responding to these discussions, I'll keep doing them. Thanks! ornluaWolf
Aaaaaaanyway, next week we will continue our discussions with the Ethiopians vs Huns. Hope to see you there! ornluaWolf
(Quick shout-out to /u/Majike03 for pretty regularly updating the previous discussions pages!!! <3)

Hello everyone, Tatoh and I are pleased to present a brand new tournament, the Adopt a Noob Cup! This 2v2 tourney aims to pair together players with a significant gap in skill to hopefully allow newer players to get involved and learn from those that are more experienced. Upon sign up, players will be asked which captain they want to fight under (Hera or Tatoh), those undecided can choose to fight under either and we will assign them to a side. The theme of the event will be a battle between Hera and Tatoh’s discords to see which one will reign supreme and become the Adopt a Noob Champion!
Players of all levels are eligible and encouraged to sign up to this awesome community event, and we shall make the brackets based on the number of sign ups received. You can sign up as a team of 2 or simply sign up alone and we will pair you up accordingly. All information and sign ups will take place in discord, if you want to play you must join both discords and stay up to date with the rules and settings!

I'm ok (Master Sergeant), but I don't really know how to improve at this point. Is there somewhere I can post videos and get feedback on what to work on / parts of my strategy to improve? Is here fine, or would there be a better place?
Tested on HD.
I tried to lame a boar the exact same way as 500 times before with a normal scout, played as turks. I hit the boar twice, the boar hit me twice. It started hunting my scout for like half a second but then it instantly lost aggression and i never saw that before. Played on HC2 Arabia. Am i missing something essential here or does that happen because of the HC2 map script? Tell me please, it kinda messed up my game plan and i feel like thats not normal ^^

Can someone explain the difference especially on Cavalry.
If I start a new game for Dracula's second campaign in The Forgotten, it will start and play fine. If I save, then close down and come back to it later, it won't even initiate. Hit "Load" and then the game goes straight to desktop. There's no error message, no crash dump anywhere I can find. I've verified integrity, it just... doesn't wanna. And that's a bit of a longer campaign so I can't just sit there for multiple hours trying to beat it in one run! I've updated to the latest Nvidia driver in case that was doing it but no love there either.
With the other two Chinese gods I can make 10 with Fu only 2 is this a bug?
From all the streams I have watched it seems that myth units aren't really utilized in competitive play. Is there a reason for this? Are there mainly only certain myth units that are utilized for comp play?
Towers have always been hard to balance. Offensive towers are too strong and defensive towers are too weak. So I thought, what if we
Change tower cost to 50w 100s
Towers build within x tiles (I thought x=40 would be cool) radius from the enemy starting TC cost double the wood.
Only in nomad this might sometimes not work when you start very close to each other. It will result in a nerf for both players. So you can either keep it that way, or you can undo it by saying: Towers build within x tiles radius from your starting TC aren't affected by a cost penalty.
Also, when this change is set, you can start buffing defensive towers by giving them better stats or by bringing the arrowsplit tech back to castle age. Perhaps let arrowslits give an attack speed buff instead of bonus damage and transmit the damage increase to the Guard and Keep tower upgrade.
I'm not hear to be told I should get Win 10. I don't care. I'm just here to see if there is a work around for Win 7. MS obviously only cares about pushing a new OS rather than the one most people still use (according to stats).
Side note, I am sure someone will push Win 10 to me but that is not the point. We all know the game would work just fine on Win 7. There is no reason for it NOT to work on Win 7. Now... if Microsoft wants to give me a free PC with Win 10. Thats fine. But I don't plan on updating to Win 10 anytime soon.
Hey y'all,
I have a 2013 macbook and i've been itching to play some age of mythology lately. I see that someone already asked about installing it a few years ago, linking this site https://tomitheboss.com/macdownloads.php.
Idk it seems a little sketchy and is asking me to click on a continue button with no hand icon to get to the "destination link." I'd love to not get a virus on my computer thats worked for me 6 long years. Has anyone used this link with success? Am I getting spooked for no reason? Would love any and all feedback.
Just realized I permanently deleted my invitation email which would've given me access to the closed beta of AoE II DE... Feels bad man
I was hoping someone who had played the beta with a lower end machine could help me, does the game run OK on lower spec machines?
Even when they were on sale for a couple of bothers I couldn't bother. I only play multiplayer though so I couldn't care less about the campaigns.
Luckily, at least on steam I could play with the expansions but with a limited civ pool.
I reckon I've played at least all of the expansion civs 25+ times each without ever buying the expansions. The only downside is that I obviously can't choose my civilization in a competitive game, but I don't play at a level where that really even makes a difference.
EDIT: I realize the way I worded the title is a bit weird, obviously many people never have, but I more so want to know if my suspicion that many people haven't due to the limited civ pool is correct.
Hi 23/F/PC
Just looking for someone to play some games with, I have very limited internet so once my games get an update I can't really play them until I take my PC to my brothers and scab his internet.
My current playable games are
- Age of Empires 2
- Depth
- Insurgency
- No Mans Sky
and obviously Killing Floor 1 hmu !
Just played an almost two hour long 3 v 3 which basically came down to an Aztec vs Inca match up at the end. Was up against a fully boomed late game Inca as Aztecs and was faced with a Slinger-Skirm-Eagle (all FU) army. Tried fighting with my own FU EEWs and Skirms and just couldn't clear the army - I'd send my skirms, he'd respond with his EEWs, I'd send my EEWs, EEWs would fight each other while mine got picked off by the slingers and his were barely dented by my skirms. Some micro meant that I could take out his eagles with skirms but no HC meant it was a tough task only made easy by the fact that he didn't have too many EEWs, especially once my EEWs had already fought them. Anyhow, fast forward and Aztec skirms vs Incan Slingers/Skirms goes reasonly well but then a new batch of his EEWs turn up and we repeat. Eventually I'm hemorrhaging too much gold on the EEWs to continue especially since there're a lot of slingers now.
With a non Meso civ I'd just throw in the light cav and let it do its thing - with the Aztecs having no cavalry though, I don't think there's any trash based counter possible to this army comp (unlike with other civs where trash can still hold its own against gold units). The only alternative I could've explored was siege (also very gold intensive) and that's a dicey one at best since there're a lot of EEWs and I don't get heavy scorps to counter Infantry (and 8 pierce armour means most traditional ranged Infantry counters aren't really an option here). I could've gone siege and skirms and EEWs but that's just an extremely gold intensive combination and a civ with hand cannoneers would've had a much more effective counter than my EEWs (especially since Incan EEWs move faster as well - preventing him from getting to my siege as an Aztec would be pretty damn hard, with EEWs or Jaguars).
Anyhow, I was wondering if I'm missing something here and if there was some other option which I could've explored.

I used to play age of empires 2 and age of mythology online with my friend and I want to get back into it but it seems like the online communities are not active anymore. Does anyone know what games still have an active multiplayer PVP?
Time for another weekly round of questions.
Talk about everything from build orders to advanced strategies.
Whatever your questions, the community is here to answer them.
So ask away!
I randomly picked up the AoE2 HD from steam last night with my friend, and we duked it out, and it was great fun. Last time I played AoE was a very long time ago, I almost forgot everything about the game, and I was just a kid back then anyways. Now, I have a lot more gaming experience, and RTS experience in particular. I'm master in Starcraft 2, and have some concept of macro and stuff.
Now, my questions after just couple games:
1) I picked Saracines because I remember their signature camel cavalry being good. Turned out to be pretty good. What other strong unit comps do Saracines have? I pretty much rushed castle and mameluks, and that was enough to win.
2) Why do people only build one town hall? In other RTS, it's usually profitable to have several worker-producing structures to get ahead in economy.
3) What's the best way to defend against early agression? I tried towers, but they suck.
4) Does castle damage scale with number of units inside? Same for town hall.
5) Why are mosques and monks so brutally expensive? Are they effective high tier units?
6) How exactly do markets work? If it's 1 vs 1, is there even a point in making one? \
7) What is a good base layout?
8) What is optimal worker/army ratio? How many workers is optimal to have on the four resources? Is port with fishing boats efficient, or should I just spam farms?
9) Do all upgrades apply retroactively? For example, if I have an old farm, and make farming upgrades, does it work, or I have to destroy and rebuild it?
10) When I go scouting the enemy base, what should I look for? Worker count, tech, # of bases/expansions? What are the tells that I'm about to get my ass wooped?
See: Title.
I've been talking with a good friend of mine about why the Age of Empires II HD client can often feel like a kludgy mushy mess, but they're not convinced by me simply saying "Because it just is", and not happy with me explaining that the original HD devs made a mess of the codebase, and then the Forgotten Empires team were made to work from that codebase, rather than starting the HD project over again from the original AoC codebase.
They wish for proof, and explanation, for why the HD client runs mushily, or feels like a mess.
They claim to me that they can't see the difference, and that people are just whinging for the sake of it, but I know from my own personal experience that there is a big difference between the two clients.
Would it be okay if I asked the community to help give some history, and some explanation, as to both what is wrong with the HD client, and why/how it ended up at the state that it is now?
(Also, is the DE client being worked on from the AoC codebase, or from HD?)
EDIT: They're also asking for sources, otherwise they'll reckon y'all are just parroting on what other people have said to you.
I trust the guys here, but, well, they just wish to be sure!
Should'nt we be worried that microsoft has spent a fortune to bring shroud and ninja to mixer? Not to mention both of them went past their peak popularity just a few months prior to them being signed to mixer.
Thats effectively 10 age4 worth development money down the drain.
RIP.
The game is coming out in like 2 weeks, but I haven't seen any type of hype anywhere honestly. Why haven't big Age of Empires based channels uploaded gameplay/early previews of the game already? Why aren't we seeing some kind of trailers for any of the new civs? Are there even any new mechanics/anything added to the game? Is the pathing fixed? Can we go over 500 population?
I got lucky a friend reminded me, but I almost forgot this game is coming out in a few weeks, yet we have seen no kind of promotion or whatsoever. Or am I just somehow missing out on it all?

Anyone got any tips for Nomad? I just cant a find a way to win it. Often my economy is slower and I have trouble massing an army before my opponent does.
As soon as the game starts out and you’ve collected your starting crates, send your resources to your teammate—ideally one using a Civ that’s already great at rushing—so that they can Age immediately and begin attacking opponents stuck in the discovery age. Since most teams resign as soon as a teammate quits, all you would theoretically need to do is obliterate one of the enemy teammates, instead of stressing about killing all of them with your limited resources. So despite crippling yourself by giving resources to a teammate, as long as the teammate successfully kills 1 opponent you win. Thoughts?
What civ's language do you find the most appealing? When i watch someone like theviper play its fun to hear him micro a civ with a standout language like the celts
I've started being interested in AoEII after watching T90 for a while and I'm surprised to see that nobody's playing/hosting these kinds of game even on Voobly.
Is there a place where people go to to get 8 people together and host a diplo game? I'm quite newb, but I am really interested in a more casual-setting game of diplo and shenanigans.
I've got Voobly and wololo kingdom installed, so there's no issue there, but I just haven't felt interested in playing 1v1...
I thought maybe there are similar people out there with a discord or something to do that.
Thanks!
Mine was viewing trade carts as a long term investment with a greater ROI the earlier you made them. Although this is true, I never factored in opportunity cost (Resources used on trade carts can't be used for military / eco) so I would build them in feudal age.
Seeing another post here about trade carts made me realize this is a common problem many players still have.
More recently with the help of someone who watched a recording of mine I realized my focus on laming opponents and luring deer was detrimental to my scouting and build orders.

I have been looking for a build order for the map ''Migration'' to no avail. Making my own experiments I came up with my own 20 population Tower Rush with the Italians, making it possible to hit Feudal age before the 10 minute mark as illustrated in the linked video. But it is a very risky strategy, especially on 1 vs 1 where your opponant can be very awkwardly positioned like in the video. With that in mind, I wonder if anyone here know of any other strategies or build orders for this map?
Thank you for your attention, please give some feedback and share your thoughts

Hey ya'll, I've been playing HD for some time and I just joined Voobly, and got wololo installed and everything.
I'm just a little disappointed to find very few people seem to be using wololo/ expansions. Most of the games I've joined I can't even build palisade gates.
Am I doing this wrong? I've been using the "beginners" lobby

Even if you can wall your eco with a single layer of stables?
With aoe2de being nearly released, are there going to be anymore major updates for this? I know they're busy with aoe2, but worried about the lack of any news. Cheers
I played a game online for two hours, 3v3, on my team one player disconnected while the other player left. After I was defeated I was eagerly awaiting my two level ups.
But I got nothing! It said something along the lines of connection lost despite me being connected to the very end!
What happened here? How do I solve this problem?
I'm sure I'm not the first person to suggest this but couldn't find any reddit posts about it. The idea is to add castle age unique technologies to the university so players aren't forced to invest into a castle just for the tech, which is often not possible in competitive play. It would probably need to come with some kind of balancing costs or something for some of the technologies, for example:
AtlAtl 400 food 350 gold -> 600 food 450 gold
Yeomen 750 wood 450 gold -> 750 wood 750 gold
Castle age techs who would be the biggest winners/overpowered:
Atlatl, Yeomen, Chivalry, Anarchy, Marauders
Castle age techs that may become viable for castle age strategies, which are seldom used right now:
Tusk swords, Obsidian arrows, Sipahi, Chatras, Chieftains, Howdah
Things like Slav's Orthodoxy and Teuton's ironclad could become viable as well but are still not game changing.
I never play scenarios so I don't know if this would mess with them, like some of the suggested tower balances. But this would allow for a lot more strategy diversity in late castle and transposition to end game.
Like, they have 20 hussars infront and everything else is falconets or wheeled artilerry.
It's so annoying because they just pummel through your simple infantry.

I like to play Mongols and I know my friends who I will be facing off against like to play Britons and Koreans, what do I need to know about the matchup?
In a 2v2 are Mongols and Spanish good vs Britons and Koreans? Which other civ could work well with Mongols?
Any help would be appreciated, cheers

Hello,
I just started playing the good old aoe 2 age of kings with a friend. We used GameRanger to connect to eachother and started multiple games.
The problem was that after a few minutes of starting a new game, the bots would all resign at the same time.
Are we doing something wrong or is it some kind of normal bug?
I have been playing a bit online after... 17 years I think? And now that I am older and more critical there are a few things that really bother me: (aside from lags and everyone else being better than me)
This is not an angry rant, I would seriously like to hear some other peoples opinions. I tried googling these things and got no relevant results, which makes me wonder if I am the only person who thinks this.
