Game-breaking Lag playing non-native AI?

Hey all,

I've been trying to play games against barbarian AI for the last couple of days and the game is essentially unplayable. First it stutters so much that I can't lure a boar without at least one villager dying because the game won't register mouse clicks so the vill just takes the boar-beat down. Then the game will run fine for like 20 minutes and then the game basically becomes completely non-responsive.

I started playing on a dedicated server, but though maybe ping was the issue, and switch to LAN. In bot scenarios, the game essentially locks up, or the Barb player keeps performing actions, but I can't do anything. For example, a couple knights started to raid. I clicked on my own knights and right clicked near the raiding knights. nothing. Any ideas?

i have a pretty high end system (10C i9-9820X), so I don't think it is my computers inability to handle it. Any thoughts? I have no lag issues playing DE ai.
