double elimination format in tournaments

why is this not a thing anymore?

there was a time when almost all tournaments were doing this, and it seemed the fairest way to decide the first 2 spots.

but i hardly see any tournaments using this format now. it's usually straight elimination playoffs with a group stage sometimes.

it seemed to me that that would've been pretty good for hidden cup as well - for someone with an unfortunate matchup in first round to still perform a bit.

i understand the time constraints, but other than that, am i missing something here?
