My happy purchase of an epic classic ended with a refund.

Hey guys!

I searched for a long time for a strategy game that would scratch the itch, and having played the game as a kid, I kinda knew what I was getting. After days of research on steam and countless discussions with friends, I decided to go for AoE2. Imagine my elation when I read the post about it being on sale today. I immediately put my pants on and rushed to the bank to get myself a steam gift card. I came home, bought the whole pack and installed it.

And then.. the realization that I have been wearing rose coloured glassed.

The first thing that greeted me was a completely useless launch menu with as much spam as you can fit in a medium sized window. I somehow managed to find the "play" button, but then I was greeted by some multiplayer online mumbo jumbo crap that downloaded stuff from steam and whatnot. I swiftly alt tabbed out of the game and closed it. I went to the advanced firewall settings and blocked both the launcher and the game exe files. Then, I restarted Steam in offline mode. The launcher menu suddenly appeared a lot nicer without the social media spam, and I managed to get to the main menu.

As with a lot of games, the first thing I do is go to the options to change the resolution. Only that you can't change the resolution. or anything of significance. I noticed some unwanted workshop icons and whatnot, but moved quickly past them to start a campaign. Boom the game opened. I could barely read the words written, let alone the icons on top and stuff like that. The people and the environment pierced my eyes with the force of a thousand pixels, and I thought to myself how I'd prefer it to be blurry. I played for a bit, but my eyes were hurting, and my enthusiasm plummeted into the depths of hades, so I deleted it and refunded the game.

I'm really dissappointed that it ended like this, and I'm not a pixel or fps nazi, but this is simply too much. I didn't think they would remake the game, but it appears like they just slapped the "HD" randomly onto the same old game (only that it was better when you could play it at 1024px ).

Ehh... no strategies for me I guess...

Age of mythology is probably the same as this...
